I have a Carter [Federal Mogul] 9635S [= Edl 1405] manual choke 600 CFM 4-Bbl on my V8 350 in the '71 GMC Jimmy, ...

I won't flame you. :smoke: I was checking out what search hits I got for a carb, before checking in. I saw an Edl E1405 600CFM for $363.00 (Black Fri. sale). The original intake is still on, don't care to upgrade, which would domino into other things. Making sure "manual choke" is included, otherwise not going for more CFM, what's the point. Appreciate your input!

Hey Kurt, count me in on this thread! Love following along with your awesome pictures. I hate driving in Mesa/Phoenix even in my Camaro or Yukon. I can’t imagine it in my 72. We bought the Denali at camel back Ford, I was running it pretty hard on the test drive to make sure everything was in order. The sales guy wasn’t even phased. He said he’s been on some Hairy test drives in his time in sales. I believe it. Phoenix is fun to visit but when it’s time to go home I’m happy to leave the big city.

Your story reminds me of this classic:

Thanks for checking in. I still see my pictures on the last page, but another thread all the pictures are blue squares, because Flickr banned me (can't post screenshots). So my activity is going to be limited on this forum until I re-establish on another photo hosting site.

1404 = 500 CFM Manual Choke. 1405 = 500 CFM Manual Choke. 1406 = 600 CFM Electric Choke. I think the 500 CFM Electric Choke is the 1403, but I'll need to see a catalog again to be sure.
I bought my HiPo L6 parts 43 years ago. A 390 CFM carb was $87, an aluminum 4V intake was $60, and long tube headers were just over $100. I can't believe what L6 parts go for now.
But putting a 4V carb on a V8 is a piece of cake. Aftermarket alloy intakes are all over the place and at prices Inliners only ever dream of. Look at Weiand, Edelbrock, Offenhauser. Look at SBC intakes on Jegs and Summit.
Read the reviews.

My neighbor who restored a '69 Pontiac GTO, and has worked on many cars, swears by Quick Fuel carbs. Getting a 600CFM.

Aren't QF Carbs a Chinese Holley copy? But if you have a Holley expert nextdoor, what-the-heck. [My Holley Guy was going thru a bad divorce when my Stepside was in the Rebuild Phase. He was too depressed to help me.]

Too bad about your pix, Bro. You have a Pro's ''Eye.'' If you save them to your harddrive, then rummage thru Pictures when adding Attachments, they are solidly there always. Never trusted 3rd party sites or clouds.

Got the carb installed. Nowhere on the part, box, or instructions does it say where it's manufactured, so that could only mean MIC. The Heim link that Ace Hardware sells is made, guess where? I redid the link, made it straight and inserted on the other side of the pedal lever, after taking the pictures.

Cool, figured out that I need to downsize my pictures to 640 pixels wide. Won't be good for landscape glamor shots, but for this..... (I think)

I see an impending problem, the power steering line has been rubbing, surprised it hasn't leaked yet. I have to assume the pump bracket is not correct, can it be modified so the pulleys line up? This is a project that I need to address, and I can't do all this.

Did you always have power steering?

The glovebox SPID (that the correct term for the build list?) does not show power steering. Have a blurry picture, need to take a better one and post.

I started a new thread: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=828494

SPID is the special parts identification on the glove box inside. The build sheet, is sometimes built under the wire springs in the underside of the seat, or behind the gas tank. I found one inside the passenger's door. It was a jigsaw puzzle of hundreds of pieces, but I could pick out a few things. I have since lost it. There's a lot more info on a build sheet.

Just checking in for the heck of it.

I got the imitation Holly carb working, had the mechanic I trust fine tune it, needed new jets, the plastic cam thing changed, worked his magic.

I have been trucking along with no problems, other than a pack rat. The varmit chewed through one of the plug wires, so I decided to get a new set from Jegs, with straight plug boots. I never liked the 90º plug boots on the set I got recently, the wires were too close to the exhaust manifold, found they were touching one day. Now it starts right up! Put a Rid-A-Rat light under the hood too.

Took a trip to Holbrook to get some big chunks of petrified wood. What I really wanted was to replace the '69 license plate because the sun was trashing it. Stopped at a Route 66 icon and put theirs on.

Hi Kurt. My '69--'72 lemon yellow AZ plate is fading, too. Mostly the black lettering. I'm thinking of masking off the letters and reshooting with satin black spraypaint.
I know there are companies that will restore your vintage plates, reflective coatings and all, but they are spendy, and they have to do the whole plate. My yellow plate still has a 1971 validation sticker in the upper right corner. Since it's on a '71 GMC Jimmy, that's key as the Year Of Manufacture.

I went and looked up "Rid-A-Rat light". That thing is hilarious! It appears to work on squirrels, as well. Rat(s) did a number on the wiring under the hood of my wife's car, to the tune of $1700. I guess it work on any rat?

What works on packrats is the Have-A-Heart trap and a half bar of blueberry fruit & grain cereal bar. Grease the action of the trap with cooking grease [not machine oil]. Packrats will kill themselves to get a piece. Just don't have a heart. They are territorial, and will return to their ''home'' and your tasty wiring if you are weak.

My wife's on board with that "Rid-A-Rat" light. It's real rats, here, but since the neighbors cleaned out their back yard, we haven't seen much "evidence" of rats.
