how did all of you lift the cab?
 

i have the cab all disconnected and was wondering how did all of you lift it off? i there was two ideas i was thinken of jack it up and roll the chassis out of the way. invite 4-5 people overand make em lift it. unskilled labor :D -kyle

i did it with a total of 4 guys holding. two of us werent that strong, we almost dropped it. id make sure you have at LEAST 4 strong guys, 5-6 would make a world of difference.

I did mine with people power.......man did it cost me in beer tho....:p 4 guys can easily lift a gutted cab & walk the rails. If you have a cherry picker, you can rig some chains on the floor, & 2 guys can do the job.......more beer for everybody! :D

Four of us picked mine up carried it 5 feet forward and sat it down on a home made dolly. It had all the glass in it, both doors in it, steering column and seat. Wasn't too bad. Oh yeah, about 20 empty beers cans.

wasnt too bad?! i guess we made the mistake of having to walk it 35 feet off its a frame and up the driveway into my garage, i had to buy lunch.... that sucked

If the bed is off the chassis all you have to do is: position jackstands on all four corners of the cab, jack up the cab, place boards across the stands underneath the cab, and roll the chassis out from under the cab. You will have to get it up in the air to clear the tires, but if you don't have a hoist or 5 or 6 guys to help, one or two people could do this pretty easy in about an hour. Let us know how it goes, I'll be doing the same thing in a couple of weeks. Later, ....................JB

me and my dad have moved mine around a lot, it is completely gutted and no doors, since we are using the 85 frame we have had to move it around ont he frame and lift if off and on a couple times, finally got her on though for good :)

that doesnt make a lot of sense, i say we have moved it around a lot b/c of the 85 frame due to fabing up cab mounts and rad support mounts

hook a chain through the cab, hook a come along to the cab and tie it around a "tere pole" in the barn, start cranking the come along

i dont recomend the chain thing though, it bends up the rain gutter thing

any one have plans for a cab dolly i could make from 2by 4's would you ?

XXL has a plan for a dolley. our car hoist had the drag car on it when I pulled mine. mine has everythig in it still to, got out the loader tracker, bought two 20' by 3" straps, wrapednder an forked it. works real slick just make sureyou got steady diver :D

I used an engine hoist, connected straps tightly at 4 points inside cab with doors off and seat out, through door latch and down around front of cab hooked it in the middle and pumped it up just have to balance it right only took two of us then rolled the hoist away and put the cab on a dolly no sweat

The way Fine69 has it looked pretty god I think.
A long 4X4 beam with chains on both ends, stick the beam through the cab and lift it with a hoist/comealong. No damage to my cab, no beer, no sore backs.

I lift cabs with my engine hoist. I take an 10' 4"X4" and tie it down to the top of the engine hoist. Tie it down so that enough 4x4 runs past the end of the lifting arm to stick past the door opening oppisit the side you will be lifting from. Possition the hoist so that the top of the 4x4 is directly under the verry top front of the door opening. Jack the hoist up untill the 4x4 touches the underside of the door opening oppisit that you are lifting from. Then proceed slowly untill the 4x4 is touching the underside of the door opening on the side you are lifting from. The I drive a couple of nails into the top of the 4x4 to keep the cab from sliding toward you when you lift it and lift away. Works great and I can even load cabs into the back of other pick up trucks using this method. thanks guys, im probly gonna build one like estanly's since its snowing right now i cant do much else.

Here's the one man approach I just did. Seemed to work pretty well. I put a small two by four under the rain gutter, that kept the strap off the gutter so it wouldn't bend. I used two straps through the cab and then one around the outside of the cab running down the middle of the cab.
