That dash extension looks good but I'm too far along with my truck to add one. But thanks for the pics. I'm in the process of installing an Ididit tilt column and the pics look like I won't be able to keep my original 57 wheel as I am/was planning. Bummer, more expense.

When you get yours how about some closeup pics? Maybe mock it up under the dash to show us how good or bad the fit is? I'm especially interested if it follows the curve of dash well, how it fits at column drop and if the recess for glove box door is adequate?

Absolutely. Should get in within a couple weeks.

Cheers, Jim

Got the dash extension in today. Here are a couple of pics. Very sturdy piece, and curves appear as if they will match dash curves at the end. There are a couple of flat round surfaces on either end, that I guess are for round AC vents. Personally, I would have preferred it without them. Overall, not a bad piece. Hopefully I can get pics in truck this weekend.

Cheers, Jim

Thanks for posting pics, if it fits well i will be ordering one

Re: Who Sells This Under Dash Valence?

that was a lot easier than making one :D
that price isn't bad either

the catalog pic posted says molded fiberglass. if you don't want the ac vent bosses, fill the back with tiger hair and sand them off

Re: Who Sells This Under Dash Valence?

Tiger hair is the body filler with glass in it?

I like this piece and it certainly is nice that it is readily available but I'm pretty sure it's NOT the ones in the pictures I posted above. But thanks Ogre for the advice! I may just do that as I'd intended to use oval vents.

PS to Jim, It looks like its narrow. About 2"?

Dan, still haven't had time to get into cab and check the fit, etc. Maybe this weekend. I'll definitely post some pics when I get an opportunity.

Cheers, Jim

Nice looking piece.
You could always put small speakers in instead of AC vents.

Quite honestly, I haven't had time to check it out yet. Sorry guys, but I promise I will as soon as possible and post how it fits.

I apologize guys, as life hasn't offered me the opportunity to get back out in the garage in a little while. I will try to get out there and provide some feedback as soon as I can.

Thanks, Jim

Was just talking about this subject with a buddy today and came back to this old thread to see if Jim had time to test fit his yet?

Subscribing so I can come back to this later. That looks like a real nice piece. I'm interested to see how well it fits as well.

Bump. Anyone mock one up yet? They would probably sell more of them if they showed an installed piece

Update?

Re: Who Sells This Under Dash Valence?

No updates. Everyone seems to have forgotten this subject. Even me though I still need to figure out how to find and get the under dash valences shown in my original post above.

The orange truck and the green truck's valences look SO identical I can't believe its a coincidence. I think someone is selling them and I just haven't discovered them yet.

EDIT: A thought (dangerous, I know!) Maybe a one long, thin piece of aluminum flashing would work across the entire dash including the curves but I'd need to back up the straight portion with a piece of 1/4" plywood. Any thoughts/opinions on this idea?

Re: Who Sells This Under Dash Valence?

Ok, just did yet another Google search using task force, dash valance, extension, under-dash, etc and pretty much came up with nothing.

It's beginng to look like I'll have to resort to something I really have not wanted to do: Fiberglas, UGH.

I messed with it a little many years ago in high school and it was SO damned itchy I swore I'd never touch the stuff again.

I'm sure that just like paint, fiberglass chemicals have changed a lot. I remember there was casting resin and coating resin, probably more I didn't know about. There was fiberglass cloth you could buy but in high school we used old T shirts - we were funds challenged.

CALLING OGRE:

I understand I will need a long flat item like a board or plywood to mold the fiberglas (or a tee shirt!) over and I will need to follow the curve of the dash on each end along with a recess under the glove box (or I suppose I could just cut out that portion afterward). In addition, I'll need a flange on the top that will screw to the underside of the dash. I'm thinking maybe a small 1x1 aluminum angle and use short pieces on each end to pull the part against the curved dash.

Now: Where do I find the "Idiot's Guide To Making Fiberglas Parts" How to pull this all together? How to transition from the straight flat plywood to the curved portion at each end? Staple curved cardboard to the plywood and just add enough thickness in tee shirt/resin to make it a smooth curve? Would you do this entire piece in one effort or do it in pieces then join them together afterward? What to use as a release agent on the ply and cardboard? Or do you just leave them encased in glass/resin?

Anyone please chime in. Thanks, Dan

i have done some fiberglass parts and what i did was make a wood piece then cover with plastic and lay fibergalss cloth and resin. When dry remover wood and then you can build it up with more fiberglass once sturdy enough sand and mud till smooth

Ok, thanks. So you're saying the plastic acts as the release agent? When you remove the wood backer (in my case wood & cardboard OR possibly aluminum) does the plastic stay attached or does it come off?

Thanks for the advice.

Hi Dan,

I may have found the car version of the one in the first couple of pictures.
https://www.trifive.com/threads/eckl...8/post-1782965

completeautoupholstery.com seems to have gone down between 2019 and 2020 but there are archived versions. https://web.archive.org/web/20190104...pholstery.com/

Contact information is also available in archives including an owner name:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130212...ry.com/contact

They do have a facebook page as well
https://www.facebook.com/CompleteAut...=page_internal

with some photos

In all honesty, I would send these folks the pictures of the truck dash valance with a question about the source.
