Finally got one (another one that is)
 

I saw bri68's post and thought he bought mine out from under me till I got to the pic of his.
I had a 72 blazer that I sold back in 96, I needed money for a house down payment so I can't be regretful. But I really did like that rig.
The new one is a 68 half ton suburban 350 and manual trans. I got it last night and drove it about a hundred miles to get it home. Runs good! I'll try to put up the one pic but I'm on my phone do not certain if it'll work. More pics and details to come. Fourspeed

Wow it does look like mine. Nice Burb, they look good in flat black with a white roof. That is my plan for the weekend. I do have a question what size are the white walls on the truck? I am painting my stock wheels red and want to run white walls. Thanks, and good luck with it.

Those are 235/75/15s
They could stand to be a bit wider but they are ok, Just glad they aren't lower profile- I think it would be pretty harsh with some stiff tires.
I'm sketching some ideas- might go with a couple scallops coming off the wheelwells, I'm not sure though.
It's a rat, but it has attitude..

I can tell from the vin it was originally a v8 1/2 ton, but anyone know how to tell what engine it shouldve had? The spid doesn't show an engine option on it so I'm guessing at what the base v8 wouldve been. Also had a three speed column shift if it matters. Thanks- fourspeed

they came with 2 different v8's, a 283 and a 327

Thanks 67. Is there a trim tag or other way to tell which it wouldve been? I thought the 283 was done before 1968?

im not sure on that one. any pics of the spid in the glove box, it may help figure out what engine it has or had originally?

I'll take a pic of the SPID when I get home but I looked at it and didn't see any engine options. Matter of fact, it has about the least number of options total that I've seen on a glove box tag.
Also, I didn't lower it so I'm unsure how many inches it came down. Anyone know what the stock height is (maybe how many inches the rockers are off the ground originally for a 2whl drive half ton). Thanks Boys- fourspeed

its hard to say what is actually in it now since it has been modified by the po, so it may not be the original engine (at least it doesnt look like it). can you get the casting numbers off the back of the block on the drivers side behind the head, and also the ones stamped into the block in front of the passanger side head?


edit: also it look to be a 67 unless the side markers have been shaved

Correct- The engine is not original (newer vintage 350), I'm just always curious about what they had in their past. Not a huge thing, I just like the history.

I've been searching for a list of options available in that year, maybe that would help rule out what the upgrades are and what the base would've been. I'm guessing that either 327 or 307 would've been the base with maybe a 350 as the extra cost engine. Not as easy as decoding the Chevelles, etc. that I'm used to..

Also correct- Side markers have been shaved.

I just bought a new master cylinder for my 68. The auto part store computer says the two engine options were a base 307 or the 327. The 350 came in for 69 so I guess there could be some late 68's with a 350.

yes, 350 didn't arrive until '69. if you don't have the original engine, you are better off with a 350 than a 327 in a truck (better low end/torque) if you are running a mild tuned engine.

my 72 burb c20 came with a 307 (327 crank with a smaller bore) and the only thing that allows it any kind of performance is the q-jet swap (no more 2 barrel) and a 4.10 rear. if i ever rebuild it i will put a 400 crank stroker kit in it (making it a 354) and replace the cam with a roller RV unit. i do have a 406sbc but hate to replace a perfectly good engine and the gas mileage would suck without an overdrive (saginaw 3 on the tree...but have a borg warner equipped saginaw in the works).

that is a beautiful old truck that just needs a little elbow grease to shine it up (from what i can tell from the pictures). the rear does look a little low (hate the leveled look). they make 3/4 ton lowering springs for our trucks and that might be a good idea if you want to tow with it or the springs start to sag in the future (my dad had that problem with his 72 c10 burb back in the 80's and upgraded the rear).

So,,, Anyone seen a SP id with less options than this one? She's pretty plain.

Looks like must've been a 307- Glad it has a 350 in it now though, this one doesn't need to be a matching numbers as I doubt it's worth that type of restoration. Just a fun cruiser.

Saddle/off-white must be the exterior paint color I'm guessing
