Silverado Trim Code

Please excuse my ignorance :o . I've always been under the impression that the "Silverado" model ALWAYS came with certain trim options. I was under the impression (mistaken I'm sure now) that my truck, since it was the Silverado model, came with cruise and tilt column. However, they sure ain't on my truck and I can't find any evidence that these items have ever been removed, etc. Were these two items options even on the Silverado model? If so, what exactly does the model "Silverado" designate? Finally, can someone help me out with this trim code I found on my glove box, "1YE9 Silverado Equipment" What exactly is "Silverado Equipment" ? Thanks for any help.

I think I understand now. So, the fact that it is a Silverado has nothing to do with options such as cruise control, tilt steerting, etc., only with the level of interior and exterior trim, right? Then I guess that would mean the buyer had to actually specify what options he wanted, correct? If so, would those options (such as cruise, tilt) be listed on the factory RPO sheet in the glove box? Thanks for your help.

Yes, the options equiped on your truck when it was new would be listed on the sheet on the glove box door.
Mine's an 82 Silverado. The only big options it came with was A/C, Intermittent Wipers, AM-FM Stereo, 305 4BBL V-8, 4SPD Transmission and the Silverado trim package that included cut pile carpets with matching lower door carpeting, brushed aluminum dash and door trim, cloth seat, door inserts and cloth headliner. It does have all the chrome outside body trim and the 15x8 Ralley Wheels.
No Power options, No Tilt Wheel.

Aaaaand on the other end of the spectrum....

My '80 C10 is a Custum Deluxe which is the "base" trim level. But it has 305 V8, power steering, full gauges (minus tach) A/C, black/white-trimmed dash, all things specified in higher trim levels.

Kinda like in the "canadian guages" thread recently, GM just threw whatever was laying around in to these trucks.

The TRIM level has nothing to do with options, anything can be upgraded. It is just what comes standard if that is all you get. Options could be added to any trim level.

I always thought the Silverado option got you the droopy headliner and stick on trim that was falling off.:hm:
