GMC instrument bezel and glovebox door complementary/contrasting color combos
5 Attachment(s)
Pete, couldn't find any dedicated threads on the subj, so here we go (good suggestion)..
Like the title says, post GMC interior pics that highlight the GMC-unique complementary or contrasting color combos of the gb door and instrument bezel vs the interior paint color. Pls include year, SPID and/or ext paint and int trim RPO codes if known (if unknown, that's ok too!). Here are a few to get started: 67 (very low mileage), 68, 68, 70 (relatively low mileage brush fire truck) & another 68: |

Love it. Here’s one from Larry’s cheapskate friend. Highlander.

The supplier that makes those nice chrome and black 'Chevy' instrument cluster bezels ought to sell them in raw black plastic so you could paint one up for an early GMC.

I've painted some, masking the chrome off. It's a pain in the rear.
My '72 K2500 Sierra came with the blue interior. I removed the woodgrain on the doors. I put a saddle interior in. I have the matching gauge bezel and glovebox door, but for now I'm running a woodgrain & chrome combo |

Cool thread, I have to admit I didn't have a clue that this contrasting color treatment was a GMC thing. Here's my bro-in-law's 68 when he first dragged it out of the field. I know you guys are going to ask where you can get a cool steering wheel like that, sorry - don't know.

Re: GMC instrument bezel and glovebox door complementary/contrasting color combos
Worth noting that GMC Jimmy’s were the same as Blazers as regards color of the cluster bezel (black) and the gb door (matched to dash).

Re: GMC instrument bezel and glovebox door complementary/contrasting color combos
Pete, I've kinda wondered what the 1st year really was for the "color" (i.e. other than black) bezels. For some reason I always assumed 67s Chevs and GMCs all had the matching black bezel and gb door and that 68 was the first year for colors. But that very low mileage 67 I posted in post #1 seems to contradict that theory - its dash and gb door look dark fawn. Are there any "colorful" color 67 examples out there? Curious if it was a 67-70 thing or a 68-70 thing. by 71 they seem to have all shifted to match the Chevrolet logic, i.e. black bezel, same int color on the gb door, with the exception of the super and sierra grande, of course - which is possibly why they stopped the GMC color process - to make way for some woodgrain on the top of the line model. Dunno, just guessing.

Good questions Mark. I’m unsure - will keep a closer eye out for any patterns that seem to emerge. The gray-silver surround about the margins of the gb doors on the earlier examples just caught my eye. It’s as if an attempt to emulate the cluster bezel.
Here’s two more 72 examples - another highlander (all GMC highlanders seem to share this color scheme) and my old k1500, which had green bezel and a gb door that was the same green as the dash (Flint assembled). |
Re: GMC instrument bezel and glovebox door complementary/contrasting color combos

Awesome thread Mark and Pete! I’ve got a blue GMC cluster laying around here somewhere. I really love the dark olive truck posted earlier in this thread. Well I really love pretty much all the interiors pictures here!
