70 Cab swap question
So I will be swaping cabs on my 70 and besides the cab bushings and bolts that fasten it to the frame is there anything else that I should have ahead of time? I know that there will be small things like bolts but I'm talking special order things that I can't get local.
While I'm at it, where are you all getting the bushings and bolts from? TIA |

Re: 70 Cab swap question
New cab mount kits can be purchased on-line from a variety of board supporting vendors.

Re: 70 Cab swap question
If you're swapping the cab and going with new mounts, make sure to have some shims in case the cab needs a bit of help getting into position. Some of the new mounts can cause the cab to sit a bit lower. Get some big no rust washers at your local home store for this.
Avoid poly urethane bushing material. The mount kits can be had online at the usual retailers as well as locally here on the board. Hth, -klb |
Re: 70 Cab swap question
There are a lot of cab mount kits and most are junk.
All of them have the wrong length spacers and its been that way for 20 plus years. The good mount kits will have the rubber bonded to the metal on 1/2 ton kits for the upper bushings. Keep track of your old bushings spacers and bolts and compare them to what you receive. Correct the spacer length by finding new material, shortening the provided ones or using your old spacers. Try to use your old bolts is they are not real rusty, they are rather special bolts and the ones in the kits are crappy hardware store stuff. If you buy the kit from GMC Pauls you will be pretty happy. The kit I bought from him had incorrect spacers and hardware store bolts but it did have nice bushings. Others sell similar kits to his but make sure you examine the pictures of what is offered before purchasing. |
