Swapping carpet for floor mat - source?
My '73 C20 has a carpet that's pretty ugly. I'd like to swap to something that doesn't hold dirt/mud as much. Any suggestions for where to get a mat?

Re: Swapping carpet for floor mat - source?
The problem with the rubber mats (even the factory mat) is that they tend to bunch up around the center hump. LMC sell a thicker mat which might be better.
I just had the carpet replaced then bought Husky floor liners and covered the center hump with Walmart black exercise mat. There is a little dirt that collects around the edges of the liners, but I clean it out once a year and all is good. A rubber mat (even the Huskyliners) will wear out where your feet go on the driver's side and eventually need to be replaced. That is why I favor Huskylliners. Weather Tech sells a similar floor liner - they are more expensive but look better. I have always put Huskyliners in all of my vehicles. Huskyliner used to make a full width floor liner which went over the hump but I don't think the are still available. One benefit of the Huskyliners is that when you have the inevitable leaks around the windshield or elsewhere, the Huskyliner will contain the water and not soak the floor. Whatever you choose, make sure you have good insulation under the floor covering. You might consider the Dynamat type if your insulation is deteriorated, which it probably is. Doing a good job with carpet or mat, insulation, and floor liners will cost $300-$400, so it is worth doing some research. If money is a consideration, I would buy Huskyliners or Weather Tech liners and hold off on the rest of the flooring. Floor liners will make a huge difference, especially in wet weather and muddy conditions. You can get liners for a decent price if you shop around online. |

You can get OE-style, molded vinyl floor covering with jute backing at RockAuto for less money than just about anywhere else ($105-$109). Looks like color choices are black, medium blue, beige, and gray. The manufacturer is Auto Custom Carpets.
