69 slammed, 22"/24" bbc shaved clean

Hey guys, I have had this c10 pickup project laying around for a few years. I had picked up a 66 suburban a little over a year ago and got a little side tracked. I like many hotrod and truck guys had a few too many projects going on at one time not to mention the wife and I just finished building our house and detached garage over the last few years.

My expectations where to have a nice c10 short bed p/u with a classic look. Nate's suspension parts were a definite to give it that sick stance. I wanted a truck that was slammed. I also like big tires and wheels so having 24" wheels on the back was a necessity. A dream was to have 14 inch brakes all the way around the truck but I imagine I am going to settle for 13 inch on the front and 12 inch on the back. Those 12" rotors are going to long mighty small on those big wheels but remember that 66 burb that needs attention too.

Because of my time crunch I did drop the truck off at a local shop to fabricate the bed frame and wheel tubs. We ended up with a lot of metal in the rear after making accommodations for a two battery box, brackets for the air tank and big twin truck brake boosters (one for front and one for rear), and a few compartments for the air ride pump and valves.

Another want is a clean firewall. We ended up going with the Wildwood under dash brake peddle set up with the reservoirs behind the glovebox. I went with a column mounted shifter because I thought it looked clean so we have a cable system going to the tranny.

Drip rails are shaved, no door handles, flush windshield, suicide doors, and all Porterbuilt stuff welded on and smoothed.

I know there is a lot of knowledge on this forum and hoping to get some good advice as i am building. I also have a 66 suburban and if this c10 goes well I would make the 66 my next project.

rear are 24 x 9.5 Boze wheels with 5 inch backspace. The rear end measures about 60 from outside hub to hub. The rear tires are 275/30-24. The front wheels are not pictured (old set on front) and they are 22 x 8.5 with close to a 6 inch backspace with 235/30-22.

Thanks, a good buddy of mine talked me into this setup. Didn't want to take up room under the dash and I don't like the pedal setup you get when installing one under the truck so we'll see how this works. He just finished this 1950's gmc rollback truck restoration and he had used these in that setup. He has not worked on a lowered pickup like this so he had a fresh idea. Oh, and by the way I have the Porterbuilt tubular upper and lower control arms for the truck. I just left some of the old parts on the truck while we were welding.

I have a long ways to go but I really like the brake set up you have. Im like you not a big fan of having the brake pedel push into the floor like the older trucks. I will be taking notes. o ya love the truck its looking great. a great insparation.

Big Progress Today

You know some days are just more productive than others. Today was one of those great days. We got the front sheet metal bolted on, doors hung, and trimmed the inside of the front fenders so we could at least get the truck to lay down. We did get everything to line up pretty good for the initial bolt on. I might add again we spent months on those suicide doors......we ended up building our own hinges and man that is one pain in the rear end. We also cut in the Porterbuilt hinges and have them mounted. We'll be doing lots of work to them to get them to feel more molded in than bolted on. I have had these hinges for a long long time.......since Nate has some hydraulic options with these hood hinges. Really not sure where we'll go with them but heck its day one of the assembly process. I love looking at the truck laying on the ground.

I have not researched the front fender solution for my truck. The 22's + tires end up at the top of the fenders........cool:metal: Need something to keep from slinging mud on the bottom of the hood. Cardboard is the cheapest material to fabricate so we came up with a quick mockup of a fender that would not look like a fender......pretty much would taper down to the upper control arm. I don't know, I am just fishing for opinions from you guys.

thanks, I like your words clean and simple....that is what we are trying for. Just wanted some feedback which I appreciate. Not sure if the material would be painted or polished aluminum. Right now cardboard is good enough.

do you have a original picture of the hood hinges off the truck? and i agree completely, the fender idea turned out great, it will be a great looker.

The truck looks killer. As far as the fender liners, they look a bit bulky. If you could make them a bit smaller and flow the transition to the firewall it would help. I feel painted would allow them to blend in while polished will draw attention to them.
