Stock TBI fuel tank—diesel conversion replace or not?
 

Hey all,
I'm in the planning stages of a '91 12v conversion on my '88 R20 Suburban. I'm using the stock Cummins lift pump (on the block)

I've heard different opinions on using the stock TBI sender and fuel tank, should I plan on replaceing both?

Its looking like a tank and GM (diesel) sender would run me about $225 + shipping. If I need them I'll drop the money on it—if I can avoid it, I could find something else to spend the money on!

If your sender is good now, I'd remove it from your tank, remove the gas junk, and add a pick up tube and call it good. You can run a 3/8" on the VE and be fine. Make sure you clean your old tank well and get all that old gas out. On the square burb I did, we replaced the tank and sender for a diesel model because that is what the owner wanted.

Did you keep the (Suburban) stock fuel lines on the right frame rail and run a hose around the back of the Cummins block to the mechanical lift pump?

I ran new lines down the LH frame rail to avoid having to go over the drive line.

A little off topic - what are you using for engine mounts? Any crossmember modifications necessary? I'm planning out that swap for my R30.
