Couple electrical issues Need help
 

Bought a 71 chevy, it had sat fr a couple years. Put in a new battery, installed a new alternator that has the internal regulator,I do that on all these old trucks.
Replaced all bulbs.
Now here's where the issue comes up.
Turn on the lights and every light comes on.
Give a left turn signal bout front and rear blink.
Give a right turn signal and the front light goes out,,
and the indicator in dash dosent blink, however the rear blinks.
Push the brake pedal and the right rear stops.
I'm no electrical guru so gotta reach out.
Also the truck has door ajar switches, I put a bulb in the dome and all was fine but when I put a bulb in the cargo housing the dome stays on with doors shut.
I remove the bulb in the cargo housing but the dome light stays on.
Crazy! I could unhook the white wires for the ajar switches but I really would like everything to work correctly...

Most likely Donnie they added the cargo light. Does it have the ON/Off switch inside the cab? If not they just added the light and used the hot wire to light up the bulb and the cargo is grounding it. The door switch wires are the ground for the dome light. The cargo light should have it's own wiring separate from the inside light.

Now for the turn signals it sounds like you have some wires crossed.
The brake lights and turn signals are the same wire for each side. It sounds like you need a new turn signal switch in the steering column. Everything runs through it to make all the lights functional.

Hey Andy,
It has the factory style cargo lighting like you have pictured above.
I order a new turn signal switch at work Saturday it should come in the morning.
Gonna swap that out and see what changes....
Then dig into the dome light afterwards...

Hey Donnie sorry I haven't been on the forum today but your in good hands with Andy.
I think like Andy said that you have some dirty contacts in the turn signal switch.
Check the connector on the steering column for two wires on the light blue and dark blue terminals. These are your front and dash light turn signal wires. You must be getting power to the dark green wire to the rear light since it blinks. If you don't have two wires each on the light blue and dark blue wires then the dash turn signal are connected down behind the fuse panel. Or the contacts for the dark blue wire in the TS switch are not connecting.

Here's what you can do to test. Unplug the harness connector(half moon) at the column and make a short jumper wire. Jump between the purple wire in the center of the connector and the dark blue wire, Key on for power and check for the dash light and the front turn light.They should come on and they might blink. If they do then the TS switch is not delivering power to the dark blue wires. It's possible that you might be able to clean the contacts in the switch and fix the problem.

I just bought a new TS switch but before going through all that I will test those wire's with a jumper...What's yr opinion on the dome light cargo issue?

Andy said it indirectly. If you are wiring the cargo light with the white and orange wires that the door switches use to ground the dome light then you have to insulate the cargo light with rubber mounts or the cargo light body will ground the white wires and keep the dome light on. Like he said you need to wire the CL separately. The orange wire is hot all the time so you could switch it to the CL bulb positive, and then run a ground to the CL body or you should be able to ground the body directly.

Update: I have all the lights working now!
After removing the steering wheel and disconnecting the 1/2 moon connector.
I found lots of dirt and corrosion, with a lil brass brush and some contact cleaner an some elbow grease, I put the connector back together applied a lil die electric grease to the TS switch and everything works fine.
After getting the cargo light harness away from the dome light even that works correctly.
