building a mule
Hello all,
some of you guys have seen a bit of my truck project in another thread that i started by asking a couple of questions and after some great advice ive started to move foward on what i hope will be a fun buld/restore of a 64 k10. The truck was purchased from a friend of the family in nw montana about 2 months ago. its previous life was staight up ranch truck. it was parked in the spot i dug it out of back in 1994. |

i was also fortunate enough to be able to build a small shop while i was home between fishing seasons not quite as big as i would have liked but more than i had before for sure.(wife and kid took over the attached garage "we dont do snow " they said)

Re: building a mule
i just aquired a sbc 350 and turbo 350 and a 400 sbc with a turbo 350 thinking about building a 383 stroker for the mule what do you guys think ? i picked up both engines and trannies for 500 and a set of seats out of a 2001 silverado couldnt pass it up even if i dont use them shouldnt be hard to at least get my money back
|
Re: building a mule
i wont pick them up for a couple of months but i should be able to post pics soon
|
Re: building a mule
im finishing my rotation on the boat on saturday should be home saturday night. then its my wifes time for a few days then fish the wiring in the shop and away we go
|
Re: building a mule
Great truck. Classic how they parked it and just used it for storage bin. I assume it quit running for some reason? Sounds like you got a steal on those motors. To be honest though, I think I'd be pretty excited about building that original 327.
|
Re: building a mule
good to see another montana build in here. good work!
|
Re: building a mule
from what i can find the 327 was not available in 64 so im not really too concerned about keeping it original i may just drop the 350 in and sell the 400 and 327

Re: building a mule
Well got home Saturday and found a nice rear view mirror and a spotlight and emergency brake handle 40 miles from the house went and picked it all up sun so I guess it's officially started

Re: building a mule
Parts collection addiction.... Its a terrible thing LOL!
|
Re: building a mule
so ive been busy tearing the truck apart got all the body parts off for some reason i cant get pics loaded ill work on that over the next few days.
|
Re: building a mule
when i removed the windshield i found the outer and inner roof was rotted through
not good but the upside is i found a good cab just down the road from my place the guy pulled the cab and loaded it on my trailer for 500 bucks its nearly perfect except the place where the rockers meet the floor |
Re: building a mule
im a long way from the body work but does anyone have pics of the new rocker replacement and how far they go into the cab floor?
|
Re: building a mule
also picked up a front end and rearend out of a 76 1/2 ton with power stearing and front disc including the stearing box and brake booster for 250 after i get the engine and tranny of the frame get it all cleaned up thats the next step i think
|
Re: building a mule
although while i was tearing the truck apart i was supposed to be putting lights and outlets in the shop so now i have a shop full of truck parts and no lights i guess that should be next.
pics will follow soon |
