Has anyone found a backing plate to use or are you running without a backing plate??

I assume you are talking about a dust/gravel shield? If so, I do not know of any stock application that will work.

Captainfab, I'm looking to switch to rear disk brake here very soon. I have a 72 and the back spacing on my wheels is perfect. I don't have room to be any wider. Would running the impala rear setup add any width to my rear end?

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Any of my 5 rear disc brake conversions are going to move your wheels and tires out about 1/4 inch. There is just no way around it. The rotor hats are thicker than a brake drum.

Will I need to install longer wheel studs since the rotor hat is 1/4 thicker? My lug nuts only have about 7 threads as it is now.

Captainfab 09-08-2017 11:38 PM

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Longer wheel studs would be a good idea. However I do not know of a OEM application for longer studs. You will have to look at aftermarket studs.

Got my brackets! Is this the correct way to mount them?

Captainfab 10-04-2017 10:39 PM

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Yes that is correct.

Thanks for the brackets! Worked great. I used longer wheel studs because I didn't have enough thread with the stock. I used Dorman 610-358 they fit a 97 ford aerostar. I had to drill the rotor wheel stud holes out to a 17/32.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Thanks for the pic and the info on the wheel studs. Are those SAE or Metric? I didn't think about looking at Fords for wheel studs.

dwcardfan 10-12-2017 09:23 AM

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

They are SAE 1/2 inch by 20 threads same as factory. My original wheel studs had a knrul diameter of .615 these are .612 but they were a press fit.
