New tool chest help

Saw a Milwaukee 46" tool chest at Home Depot the other day. I'm digging it.

Unfortunately it's not made in the USA.

I'm looking for something similar. I want a wider cabinet with deep drawers.

My 3 high Craftsmen isn't doing it for me anymore.

I would buy a used American made box before an import. There are nice boxes for similar money on CL. You just have to be diligent.

Those fancy ones that they have on display by the checkout aisles at HD and Lowes are horrible. I remember walking up to one, and i opened some of the drawers and they damn near fell out. and that was with no tools in them.. They wont handle years of use with tools in them.

I went with this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-40-...5ERS/204781840

I love it. I will buy another one when I have more space in my garage.

You can always find a good price on a snap-op, MAC, etc.... box. Just make sure to get the serial number and contact them to make sure it's payed off (if really new box). You'll have a good box that will last.

So these boxes you speak of, you are getting them through Snap-On, etc? I assume you are talking about boxes that are financed and repo'd. So who would you contact to get them and then who do you contact to make sure they are paid off? I'm a bit confused.

In the case of Snap-on boxes, if it looks fairly new, it never hurts to get the serial number and call Snap-on Credit. Give them the number and they can tell you if there is still a credit account on it. If there is, and the seller or whoever has the note on it, stops paying. If Snap-on was to find out you have the box, depending on the state. The box is legally theirs and they can repo it.

Same goes with tools. Especially power tools. If you buy power tools and they were on a credit account and someone quit paying on them. If you were to send it in for repair work, there is a chance you won't get it back.

Lowes had some 40 inch porter-cable boxes on sale a few weeks ago.

$500 for a 40" upper and lower.

And the drawers felt surprisingly solid. Much more so than the husky, cobalt, or craftsman ones I have seen.

We bought dad a 40" master force box from Menards last Christmas. I don't remember if it was made in the USA or not but I was impressed with the quality and sturdiness of it. It even has haa a pull out workbench built in. I think it was about $700, I plan to get one for myself.

Montezuma is a well known box maker. Not as good as SnapOn or Matco but light years ahead of Cornwall. Some independent parts stores sell them out of the monthly tool flyer
