My 1972 C10 "Restoration"

This truck is a 1972 C10 (Obviously) but it was bought in 1973 by my Great-grandfather, who passed it to my Grandfather, who passed it to my father, who has passed it to me. It is all original minus the center console, exhaust, gas tank, reaido, and grill. All of that was because the original became damaged. The exhaust is Magnaflow from the headers to the pipes, the grill is aftermarket gilded aluminum, center console is from a newer Chevrolet and is there for the cup holders only, and the tank was leaking so it was replaced by 2 in the bed under the toolbox.

My plans for this truck is to make it look like it just rolled off the showroom floor in 1972.

To do this I need to:

1. Repaint it with the stock paint (if anyone knows how to get their hands on a lot of medium olive green poly 504 that would be appreciated)

2. Redo the trim so that it looks new

3. Reupholster the seat (drivers side has some tears in it)

4. Likely replace the rear bumper (was rear-ended in the 80's at least once)

5. Rebuild the radio, distributer, and carburetor.

Engine, Transmission, and Rear-end were rebuilt 35k miles ago so that shouldn't be a problem for a while

Go :chevy:!!

Welcome
You can get any color mixed for paint that you want and any paint shop can get the code and mix your green paint
Trim is widely available from vendors, try to use ones that support our board
There are members here that do upholstery (truckseats for one) and others do radio repair and so on

Good luck

Re: My 1972 C10 "Restoration"

Thanks!

Forgot to say that it is a longbed C10 Super that came with the TH350 and coils all around. The one main change to the truck is that the rear drum brakes have been converted to disc brakes. It has AC and heater working (AC low on freon, possible leak) and an aftermarket tow package and mount for a 5th wheel (this thing hauled around a 30 ft RV with no problem for about 6 months.).

The big thing that I left out is that I have an extremely limited budget. It also doesn't help that I am rebuilding a 1958 Texas Maid Osprey 14' aluminum boat (reupholstering, wiring, you name it it needs it). Can I include a link to that forum? (I assume not :()

As is I plan to rebuild everything myself and plan to do most of the reupholstery and painting professionally, but locally.

The first thing I have to do is empty out my 2 car garage and somehow fit this longbed behemoth in there.

Very nice truck. Always nice to see another Medium Olive/white truck in work. I'm in to watch.

Do a search on the site before you order any paint. There have been a number of threads about issues with getting the 504 medium olive color correct with some paints, especially the newer base/clears.

I totally get it, I can't find many others that run let alone in the Medium olive/White color scheme, I'll have to get better pictures of the interior tomorrow, the build sheet in the glove box is almost mint condition which is hard to find.

Re: My 1972 C10 "Restoration"

Gosh it has been a while since I found the time to post on here, since the last post I have put some miles on the truck and found that the springs have started to give out (mainly the front left) and the truck has dropped 1 inch in 2 months (I started measuring when I saw that the front left was sagging back in August). I also would like to get rid of some of the body roll with a sway bar on the front, was wondering if anyone had an idea or preference?

A few pictures of the interior, not too bad for an estimated 250k miles on the body. (Family broke the odometer and didn't keep track of the miles, but they somehow still changed the oil pretty regularly...)

More interior pictures, odometer is not accurate, should read around 37k miles. And the air conditioning works!...kind of sorta...well it blows air that is colder than the air outside...most of the time...
