LS3/L99 pre install questions
Do I need to get an alternator relocate kit to relocate the alt to the upper RH side?
Is a 'high hump' conversion needed when installing in a 70 short originally with 250 and 3 on tree? (going to use the caddy pan) with the 6sp auto? When installing the motor do you drop motor and trans in assembled or drop motor first and install trans from bottom? Thanks! ~JH |
Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
Can't speak to the LS3 FEA.
I would do the high hump because it could give you a better drive line angles. I would install the engine and trans together unless you have a lift. It not fun trying to wrestle a trans into place if the truck is on jack stands. |
Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
High hump gives most room over trans, but does encroach into cab space a little...you may have to fold back the body seam near rear of engine for clearance...
Cross members come out... Alternator relocate most likely...where are you going to mount the AC compressor? Engine and trans install as one unit....aftermarket rear crossmember... Are you dropping the ride height? Have fun... :chevy::chevy::chevy: |
Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
if it is an L99 I'd consider defeating the DOD with a cam/lifter swap

Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
I helped a buddy put an L99 out of a Camaro in a '72 GMC and the front accessories all fit, so you should be alright with what you have.

Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
I used the CPP engine mounts, DD sliders, factory Camaro accessories for my LS3 and the alternator cleared the frame rails with no modification. I did get rid of the AC comp since my truck didn’t have AC. BTW, TBSS long tubes also cleared and is what I used when I was NA. Gonna be a fun truck once your all done

1 Attachment(s)
Most compact front drive accessory set-up, plenty of clearance
LS1 from 2001 F-body I did use the Alan Grove compressor bracket to keep it down low.. Attachment 2082772 |
Re: LS3/L99 pre install questions
Can anyone tell me if I can use any of the OEM camero (l99) oil pan parts will work on the cts-v pan?
The pan is 'pan only' and sells the windage, dip stick, dip stick tube and pan gasket separate. ---Do I need to buy a windage, gasket, stick and tube? ~JH |
