Door question ?
 

How tough is it to cut a truck door window frame out to fit on a blazer ? What needs to be done ? The reason is that I can`t find a passenger door and would like to stay away from problems that a repop would cause.
Also, I have a 72 and not quite sure if there is a difference on what year I could use if a truck door is a possibility.

The difference on the 72 doors in the screw holding the door together under the vent window.

If you know how to use a hacksaw and a file it is easy. Lay out some masking tape and transfer the measurements from your old doors. It will take just a couple hours to do both doors.

That's what they did at the factory. Just cut down truck doors. The factory assembly manual has a diagram on it. It's pretty easy to do. You've got Blazer doors to use as a guide. Cut it a little long and grind it down to exactly where you need it. Also, use the support piece from your existing door as well.

You will need a '72 truck door. The '72 is different than other doors. 72 was the only year that had that recessed dimple under the vent wing window for the screw that holds the vent.

I have that screw on the doors of my '70 jimmy and I'm pretty sure those doors are original to the jimmy. I'll take a picture tomorrow ( I'm traveling for work today)

If it's a recessed dimple with a screw going through it right under the vent wing window then they are '72 doors.

Best I can remember it has a screw going thru a little plastic piece and it is about three inches from the top edge of the door above the door handle, I'm going to have to take a better look at this...

on blazer doors there is a bracket or brace spot welded on the outside where the latch goes. it can be drilled out and put on the truck doors. dont know why its there but must be some reason.

My 71 Jimmy also has the screw/dimple under the vent window. "I'M so confused"

look at this thread, the picture of the interior looking at the passenger door, you can just make out the dimple under the vent window, and its a 71 Jimmy. Not saying they are original doors but.......

Actually, now that I think about it, those are correct door panels etc for 69 - 71 so pretty good chance they are original.

My 70 Jimmy has the same screws in the door.

Maybe Jimmys were different? I'll try to take a pic of mine tomorrow afternoon...

I have an 71 and 70 blazer plus an extra set of doors that came off an originial 70-- 6 doors none are from a 72 and they all have the caps and screws for the vent windows. I sure some don't have them but in the dozns of blazers I have seen. I have nevers seen one without those caps

Pound, I think you're talking about the plastic caps and screws that go on top of the vent window and screw into the window pillar. We're talking about the dimple/screw that is below the vent window on the actual door right above the plastic door panel.

The pickup doors in these pictures are true 72 doors. Notice the recessed dimple under the vent wing window. There is a screw that goes through there. Same for the Blazer doors. 72 was the only year that had these doors. That's why it is a PITA to replace a 72 door. If you replace one of your doors with any other year, they wont match. Some people don't care, but it would bug the heck out of me. If you have a 72 Blazer or pickup and your doors don't have this dimple, I hate to say this, but from everything I've heard, read, etc., you aint got original doors brother.

Here's a pic of a 71. Note the doors don't have the dimple and recessed screw under the vent wing window like the blue '72 in the previous pics.

Ok, I quess what I need to know now is if I can`t find an original 72 door, will the 67-71 ones work ? Will there be a problem with the wing ?

nope, older doors will work just fine, they just wont be "period (72) correct"

The window mechanism is also diffent length for the 72 unit (The piece that sticks out of the door panel that the window handle clips onto). I believe that the 72 unit is longer than the others.

The window regulators are different for '72. You can have a '72 door, with '72 "guts" on one side of your Blazer and an older door, with older door guts on the other side. The only difference that you will notice will be that dimple and screw on the '72 door. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I think it looks odd to have that dimple/screw on one side of your truck and not on the other. If you have a door that needs to be replaced and you can't find a '72 door, I would replace them both so they matched. It would drive me crazy if I didn't.

My '70 Blazer doors also have the screws below the vent windows. I agree with some others above that ALL Blazer/Jimmy doors have these screws to hold the outer and inner door panels together. '69 - '71 Blazer doors do not have the sheet metal dimpled for the screws, instead they use a plastic washer that is formed to the door panel to trim out the screw.
