Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
i have a 86 chevy swb, that has been lowered 6 frt / 8 rear. has motor and tranny. motor is good, runs, tranny is missing reverse. has no front grill, needs a fender, and door, needs window motors, some interior parts, and has a little rust.
a guy wants to trade me for a 68 chevy swb project. no motor or trans, needs inner fenders, bed might need some work. he said the guy he bought it from, started tubbing it. interior looks good. i am adding a few pics of each truck. let me know what you guys think. should i say yes or should i pass. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/86chevy2.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/IMG_1758.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Picture030.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/IMG_1760.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...WB/86chevy.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/86chevy3.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Picture032.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/IMG_1755.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/IMG_1756.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...B/IMG_1757.jpg |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
If it were me, and I have a nice 78 swb, I would probably say yes. That is of course making sure the overall condition of the 68 is where you think it should be.
The square body's here in the Northwest are actually so cheap, that they are not selling hardly at all. On the other hand, 67-72 short wides are getting to be a rare animal around here, at least for sale anyway. Just my $.02 .. Drew |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
I'd do it.
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
well honestly to me looks like the the 67 is much closer to paint, but also looks to be a old drag truck not a good or bad thing of course. but it might be missing every component under the hood.
and it seems like theres alot of $40-$60 dollar parts missing all over. the 86 has of course a motor and a tranny. but the body seems to be a bit shy of straight. and the interior could use some work.. but you know the truck a whole lot better than me. depends on your goal for the vehicle. or wich bodystyle you favor. if it were me i would trade..... and you could easliy pick up a motor and transmission for it for 1/2 the price of the other trucks body parts. keep in mind these 67s are tricky with the floors under the carpet the panels behin the gas tank and of course the drip rails if you are in any sort of rust belt.. Put simply, to each your own. they are both rebuild beasts. use your best judgement. |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
thanks for the input so far guys.
the thing is the 68 is my wifes favorite year of truck. she might have some say in it. the guy said there is only the bed is the issue. by the pics the body doesn't seem to be in to bad of shape. haven't seen it in person yet. keep the replies coming. |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
id do it
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
One thing i noticed in the pics.. The 68 is 5 lug. Something to look into. Was is completed? Does it have disk in the front already?
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
yeah i noticed the 5 lugs on it. I think i would trade. But check over it very well.
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
you posted in the wrong forum.. of course were going to say doi it..we all love 67-72!!
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
I would go for it. The 73-87's dont do much for me and it looks like yours needs some work anyways. The 68 needs some pieces too it looks like but there has already been a lot done. Somebody has some time into that louvered hood! I would do it if it were my decision.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS

|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
here are pics of the engine bay and bed.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS

|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS

|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Do it and keep the hood
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
thanks for the replies, fellas. it will be HER truck. I just get to do all the work. this is her favorite year of truck.
if i can find the right offset wheels i will do it that way. so i don't have to narrow the rearend. Griffin- i am not partial to the hood. we will see what the wife says. myself i like a cowl hood, but it wont be my choice. Will keep you in mind. you dont live to far from us. we live north of springfield in bolivar missouri. ------------ will keep you guys updated what the out come is. found on craigslist this guys post for the truck. he is wanting $1900 for it. i dont think he could get that for it, but who knows. plus our truck has a motor and tranny. ------------ any of you guys know where the best place is to get a wiper motor, and wiper arms, that move the wipers. dont know exactly what you call them. or if any of you guys have a motor and arms. ----------- they have removed the tank from the front. hoping they did a good job on the gas fill hole. will be building a aluminum fuel cell to put inbetween the frame in the rear. also looks like they have put a heater delete plate on firewall. Did any of you notice that? |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
I noticed the shaved heater.
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
i'd do it but probably take the rims and tires and put on the '68....
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
sorry i havent updated this post. after posting and listening to your guys comments i was ready to trade. well got a little busy and it kind of went on the back burner.
not able to sell the 86, and the guy got back with me about trading. went and looked at the truck last night. truck is pretty solid. needs new cab supports, driver side rocker has dent in it, believe i will be able to pull it out, tubs in bed need to be finished. the hood has some minor work that needs to be worked on. right in front on the seam. other than that it is good shape. will have to pull the bondo out of the door handles to put on the new door handles. needs wiper assembly, bondo out of antenna hole. the guy had removed the gas tank from cab and put it in bed. lagged screwed to the tail gate. no biggy thou. can fill in the holes. does have leafs under it. said that they only come out with a few like that. i dont know. has 5 lug front and rear. disks on front. everything else seems to be solid. i told the guy i would trade. i believe i am getting the better deal out of the trade, even though my truck has motor and tranny. he is coming to look at my truck today. will update post later tonight and let you know. then tell you my plans with truck if traded. |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS

oh hell ya i would be all over that deal... as for your rear tubs... exact how mine was done,,, 31x18.5x15 on 14" rim with 10" backspaceing was perfect fit (mine had trailing arms and NOT leafs so double check)....
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Looking at the 5 lug, The pattern looks big on the rear. Does it have a 9 inch for the rear diff??
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Quote:
not a ford 9 inch. it has a 12 bolt posi w/ 3.08 gear. fords come with a 5x4.5 or 5x5. the rear wheels will probably be up for sale, possible the hood. going to put corvette wheels on it. 19's on rear - 18's on front. |
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
man what are you waiting on ??? dam i only wish i could find someone to trade me my 91 for something like that.......
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Trade it
|
Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Heres the final verdict:
86 HAS BEEN TRADED FOR THE 68. got to find a trailer to hall them. i am even making $150 on the deal, by delivering the 86. |
