1965 radiator placement
 

The PO of my truck cut the frame and lowered the radiador into the space. I'm changing a bunch of stuff and have fixed the frame but don't know if the radiator is going to hit the hood. Is it ok that it sits this high above the core support? I'd rather not wrestle the hood on there just to see so it would be helpful if someone could let me know. Thanks

The PO of my truck did the same thing. My truck originally had a straight 6, but the PO swapped in a v8 and torched the frame to make the v8 radiator fit in the straight 6 location. I'm in the middle of getting the correct parts to put the radiator in the v8 location. It will sit about the same as where yours is now since that is the factory v8 placement

If the guys say you're good with your radiator height I believe them.

It looks to me as if I will have one more unanticipated item to take care of for my V8 installation.

It looks like you could use a stock upper V8 rad mount to hold it in place.

One more thing I like to add do not use the flex hose on your truck take your radiator to a radiator shop and an have the sop out on a Small or bigger Brass Hose opening on your radiator then you can use a regular hose on your upper hose on your truck Foufgt that problem for 10 years then thought why can't i have a bigger or Smaller hose bib Fixes all my problems.

Thanks again for all the input. I wasn't looking forward to wrestling that hood on there by myself to see if it would fit. lol A stock mount would have been nice but I just cut up the one I had and rewelded it to work. More work, less money.

if it still matters, here's a shot of a factory original '65 C20 with 283 :metal:

lots of 60-66 parts sellers around here, probably get that upper bracket for peanuts..

Like a said the top Radiator hose can be Fixed by going to your locale Radiator shop and putting in a small brass or copper hose adaptor you don't have to run what the guys are running Below I fought with that set up for 15 years on C20's up to the C60 bobtails.

I was referring to the top radiator mounting bracket..

but, for the hose issue, whole page full of $10 cross over hoses..

or change the water neck is a lot simpler than modifying the radiator..

Thanks for that link. I was thinking of using the metal pipe and connecting it on the ends with the rubber. Anyone ever done that? Did the pipe hold up well?

that was my dads truck since new, I always thought it was factory..

either way, it's been there as long as I can remember and hasn't been touched in years..

still runs like a top today with no water leaks, now oil leaks is another story :lol:

those short hoses are probably tractor hoses whenever they were replaced..

I think l put a heater core in it back in the 80s when I was a teenager..

only has 69k miles.. hard work miles though..

if I had to replace it, I'd try the flex route, seems I've seen quite few of them around..

if you want to keep the same fitting size on a later sbc, necks are available..

I have at least one I believe is 1 1/2".. at the time l was wondering what it might fit..

if you need it l can look for it and send it to you..

just spotted this spread of 60-66 parts..

looks like some radiator brackets in there..
