I switched to the dual 9 inch, previously I had a rebuilt single 11 inch, or whatever stock was.

I went for a quick test drive today and the dual 9 inch is an improvement over the stock replacement I had. Im still not sure Im where I want to be with my brakes yet though, they just dont impress me like I feel they should. Im probably going to try new pads and see if that makes a difference.

What did you use to keep the tailgate letters flat that you cut out for paint ?

I used Avery Dennison 100-235-S High Bake Yellow Paint Mask. I bought it here

I got the high temp stuff as I needed it for a future project too. They sell a standard temp that's a few dollars cheaper.

What did you do to get the tailgate letters so nice, how did you trace it and keep it down when you went to paint the blue ?

My process for the letters started by tracing out each letter individually using the tailgate as a template. I used paint masking paper. I held the paper down with one finger in the center of the letter and used free fingers to help hold down any other corners. I traced around the outside with a pencil in the other hand making sure to push the paper down and into the letter recess with light pressure. The paint mask I had was real lightweight and worked really good as a tracing paper.

Once I had it traced in paper I cut it out and then taped it to the Avery Paint Mask and traced it with a Sharpe. Once traced with a Sharpe I removed the paper mask and cut out the letter. All cutting was with a scissors, I used an xacto knife were needed on inside corners. The Avery Paint Mask is adhesive backed, its like vinyl lettering so you just stick it on like a sticker. I sprayed the black for the letter color and let it flash a couple hours, then I just peeled the backing off of the letters I cut out of the Avery Mask and stuck them in place. From there I sprayed the entire tailgate blue, let it flash, carefully pulled the letter mask off and cleared.

You did a fantastic job on those letters sprint.

I thought about doing this, but on a GMC tailgate the letters are actually not raised, but the area around them is recessed. So I would have to just spray that recessed area black and then everything else blue. That or just apply stickers to the letters I guess, but that's not ideal.

I could just do the letters in black, but that might look weird and it wouldn't look original either.

On your's I think it would be awesome to do the recessed area black, and anything raised like your lettering or the rest of the tailgate blue. The blues that we have just really work with black I think.

I could make a stencil to cover the entire recessed area. How sticky is that masking? I have visions of laying it down, pulling it up, laying it down, pulling it up before getting it positioned correctly and pulling up paint in the process. It would be a big stencil.

Its tacky but it releases nice and even so it's not bad to work with.

I haven't updated in a while but Ive been working on various issues when I get time. Lately Ive been a little more focused on trying to make some ground on some long standing problems. The first and big project I undertook was changing the transmission, while it was out I worked on an oil leak which so far seems to also be fixed. The transmission was changed due to a compatibility issue, I also had to change some of the wiring harness. My main engine harness was rubbing on a sharp corner of the head, I had a friend 3d print a bracket for me which turned out great. A couple pictures of the rendering and installed below. The swap was a big project but nothing too terrible. It was a great change as all my issues were fixed and I took the opportunity to change to an aftermarket torque converter while it was out. I think it is around a 2400 stall now, that has been a great upgrade.

A couple other things Ive been working on are the brakes, mainly brake pads. Im trying to find something thats quiet and doesn't dust alot. The stock Wilwood pads quite frankly were terrible, they dusted a ton and didnt really bite. I then tried a set of Wagner Thermo Quiets and they were a big improvement but squeaked and chirped about all the time. Currently Im on a set of Bosch ceramics and they seem to check all the boxes so far.

I started and finished one side of my power lock redo. I took some inspiration from TA_C10 and switched it just a little bit. I ended up threading 3/16 rod and holding it together with some 10-24 nuts. Switching to the other side of the pivot is a big improvement. Im going to go out and work on the drivers side in a bit. Ill be really happy to have this one checked off the list.

Ive been working on my cruise control, Im running the Dakota Digital CRC-2000. I couldnt get it to engage, I found and fixed a 12v power issue with it. It now engages but goes about wide open throttle immediately after being set, so its a major safety hazard Ive got to try and figure out. I assume something with the VSS signal is off, but really have no idea. I pulled the fuse on it for now.

In between cruising sessions I make an occasional tuning change, the focus as of late is deceleration idle. Its getting better but Ive got a ways to go yet and usually do more cruising than tuning for the time being.

During one of my cruises a few weeks ago I stopped and got a bunch of pictures. I wanted some of it fairly complete on the outside since all I had were pictures without the tailgate on.

I'm glad changing the pivot point on your locks worked out for you. It took me an hour of thinking about that, and the parts laying on the table just staring at them lol. But man, locks have NO trouble now.

Sooooo, I didn't see a pic of your pedal assembly on the LS. Are you using DBW or DBC? I will assume DBC since your using a DD cruise unit? I'm getting really close to jacking up my rear wheels and connecting the 4 wires for cruise to my steering column and testing. The DBW makes cruise soooo easy... Hope you get yours figured out.

I usually have a good time with it when I have it out, one of these times will try to get a short video. The exhaust is alot of fun.

My throttle is DBW, but its gen 4 so normally the BCM deals with the signal to set the cruise. The Dakota box is taking over this duty as I'm not running a BCM. I emailed them and they have a couple things for me to double check so I will look into it more this weekend probably.

How are you liking the low mount a/c compressor?

Which bracket and compressor are you running?

I had a long weekend working on my truck so a nice comment is great to see. I spent some time working various things and nothing really went right, one of those deals where no matter what you touch it just turns to crap.

As far as the mount and compressor I really like both, but haven't gotten around to charging the system to actually put it to a test. It should work good since its very similar to a stock type mount and belt setup. For a bracket Im using a Holley bracket, PART# 20-159. The compressor is a Vintage Air Sanden SD7, PART# 04670-MTA. I have some more detailed pictures in this thread. I did have to make a small modification for it to fit and that is also in the thread.
