Last weekend was a mixed bag, some stuff went good, others not so much.

Started out with my intake, I was able to get that finished. Took some extra time on it and moved my map sensor off of the top, and to the side on the very back. Looks better this way.

Then on the truck we started on the rear end, went to clean the inside with some brake clean and ruined the powder coat, stupid mistake, so that made the trip back to the coater and has been repaired, just have to pick it up. My powder coater has been absolutely great to work with.

After that mess we decided to try and ruin the frame while we were on a hot streak. We cut about a 1/4 inch off to allow the alternator to fit, and thankfully it worked great. Might have to do a little more grinding around the 4 wire plug but otherwise the alternator is in, and its the 140 amp.

We then decided to work on the low mount ac compressor install, after fighting that for most of the afternoon I gave up and sent the brackets back. The compressor never really fit into the brackets right, and then when we did get it situated and ran the belt, the compressor was cocked leading to a crooked belt. So I am ordering a different bracket from a different manufacture.

Intake looks great with the weight loss! Try the ac low mount bracket from old air products worked great on mine.

Got my bolts back and have them somewhat sorted after untangling them. They came out pretty good, overall I'm happy with how they turned out.

Should be able to start getting some stuff put together.

Thanks. On the bracket I checked into the Old Air one, but it looks to be for the larger compressor, I have the smaller SD7.

Over the last couple weeks we got the intake and fuel rails installed on the engine. Also finalized the main front belt drive, got the frame cut to clearance everything. Still waiting on my AC bracket, its on pre-order so not sure when that will show. Holley is playing games with their proposed ship date.

Also got the front suspension done for the most part. Sent my steering box off to be rebuilt and change to a quicker ratio, so the steering part of it isnt done yet.

The rear end is pre assembled but we are having the gear pattern checked before we complete the final assembly. The pattern is close but we want to have another set of eyes on it to avoid any issues. The rear end was re-ratio'd to a 3.73 with an Eaton Posi.

If all goes well with the rear end we should have that installed next weekend hopefully, then the plan is to start bending brake and fuel lines.

Rear end is finalized and sitting in the frame. Had to do some shimming on the pinion but everything is good to go now.

On the front I got my steering gear back, its now about 3.25 turns lock to lock. The rest of the steering is in place, and the front brake lines are partially done.

I had hoped to have a roller, but my wheels hit the rear calipers and caliper brackets. Time to pony up for some wheels I guess.

Up next weekend is more brake line and fuel line work. Need to look into the front sway bar too. I have a 1.25 bar off of an 80s 3/4 ton, but we missed a couple rivets on the tear down that need to be out. So I have to figure out what direction I am going to take to get that bolted on. I cringe thinking about pounding rivets on my nice frame.

Finally had a chance to work on the truck this weekend. I had a rough go of it the last few weeks with some major back issues, something Ive always had to deal with but had a more significant flare up.

My dad has been working on a few things during my absence, he got the brake lines done, minus the rear axle. Got some of the fuel system done, and he also got the front sway bar mounted. It was a big relief to have that done, and it turned out great, no issues popping the rivets out.

Today I worked on my AC compressor bracket, it finally came in, and like everything it had to be modified to work. With my motor mounts I can only use two of the holes on the bottom side of the mount, so I just lopped off the third one and it fit great. This bracket is way better than the previous one I tried, the compressor is actually straight, and you dont have to fight the belt to get it on.

I also worked on the rear shocks, Im not quite sure what to think with them, they are CPP, matched to the drop spring I have, but they arent really long enough as it sits now. I have pretty much no weight on the back end though, so Im thinking with the truck complete, with weight they might be alright. The more I read and think it over Im almost wishing I would have went with something different for springs and shocks.

Next I want to put the cab, inner fenders, and core support on, and then measure for wheels, and check some clearances on the motor and for the fuel system. After that is done then Im going to start on the the cab, filling fire wall holes, and maybe rockers.

That kind of leaves me with a question, at what point would you do rockers? Ive looked in mine through the holes on each end, and while there is surface rust with in them, they arent bubbling or flaking internally. Im not really sure if its worth the work, or if I can coat them with some internal rust coating and leave them.

Worked on a few things today. Finalized my AC compressor, mocked up some brackets for my rear axle brake lines, and tried to figure out the rest of my fuel system.

Set the cab on the frame as well, its great to see it in place and use it to plan out some things. Im not sure if my cab mounts are right or not, I got them from gmcpauls, but they dont look like any of the pictures Ive seen, and Im not sure if I have them in the right order. Ill have to contact them and see if they can help, of course my old ones were pretty much toast so I dont have much to go off of.

Next week Im hopefully measuring for wheels, and then shortly after ordering them. Im giving myself a week to make up my mind on what wheels I want, Ive been looking at them off and on for over a year so its time to make a decision.

That is the same picture I was following yesterday, from what I can tell my mounts have the shims or washers built into them? Or I am missing the shims and need to come up with some?

Here is my front mount, there is a washer molded into the mount against the cab, and another molded in the bottom cone mount against the frame, and then finally the bottom washer that isnt molded. I dont have the square washer or shim to go against the frame.

Here is the rear, in the guide it shows a washer on top of the mount, I dont have the washer, but the rubber has like a dome or hump in the middle of it like there is something molded into it.

The spacer that goes through the center of the front mount should go into center or bottom portion of the rubber as well. The molded washer keeping it from doing that?

No they slide together as they should, in the pic every thing is just loosely fitted.

It looks right just don't over tighten the rear mount the will squash down.

Spent some time and finished the axle brake lines and nailed down a final location on my fuel lines, Im really happy how both of these items have turned out. Mocked up my booster/master cylinder to finish that end of the brake lines. Set my seats in the cab to see how they looked and felt, it was great to sit in it and dream of when its done. I would love to have a nice set of buddy buckets, but I really want something with a head rest even if it doesnt look the best. Im not really wild on the gray cloth so I may recover them with black leather, my interior is going to be black.

This coming weekend I would like to try and get done mocking stuff up on and in the cab, then Im on to filling the firewall, and replacing rockers. I had thought about leaving the rockers, but they are pretty rusty inside. Might have some kick panel rust repair also.

After that I measured for my wheels and am going with kind of the standard recommendations of 20x8.5 with 5.5 BS on the front, and 20x10 with 5.5 BS on the rear. Tire size probably 255/40 and 295/40

Im 90% sure Im going with these wheels, same finish.
