Shop truck

I have been transplanting an LS1 and t-66 into my 65 c-10 short wide for a “shop” truck. Saw lots of great information on this site about various aspects of upgrading our trucks. I used an 86 front end to get discs and p/s, Captain Fabs bracket was a big time saver. When I learn to post pics, I will put some up....

I sure like the looks with those chrome wheels. :) That's a nice unit.

Re: Shop truck

Those chrome wheels are going away, changing it to 5 x 43/4..between the second and third pictures, I swapped in an 86 front suspension to get discs and pwr steering, used POL upper and lower tubular A arms, built my own upper mount to go to coilovers

These are the mounts, ...
All 4 wheels will be for sale eventually, not sure what I will end up with, have early vette ralleys on it for now

The engine ready to go in, some of the mounts I built to carry it. My friends here joked that the transmission x member was for a duramax.... I told them I just used materials I had on hand, no need to run to town for little bit of steel, made some brushed stainless covers for the ugly rubber onthe motor mounts....much more gratifying to build this stuff than buy it, gives me something to keep my hands busy

Re: Shop truck

I agree with your friends. That transmission ain't going anywhere

Sometimes there's more fun in building stuff yourself rather than purchasing it from someone else. Great work!

Re: Shop truck

So I’m wiring in the cab today, doing some preliminary layouts, checking stuff and bam, it hits me, there are no courtesy light switches in the doors...., so much for the fade switch on the courtesy lights to shut them off.....

Re: Shop truck

You can buy courtesy lights... American Auto Wire sells some as does Painless ...and you could always retrofit some in...

Re: Shop truck

I bought a used harness from a 67-72 truck and it plugged right in. I did make some modifications to it though to add XJ Cherokee courtesy lights under the dash

Re: Shop truck

Yes , i am well aware of those, have two sets in stock in my electrical supplies, just totally spaced it thinking there were door switches 😂, the older trucks I have done had none, just thought this “newer” truck would have them, just finished a 65 Chevelle, it had them, but I was surprised that the same year truck had none..I’ll have to see how anal I want to be with a shop truck

Re: Shop truck

I'm so glad I added them to my truck. I love opening the doors and being able to see the floor now rather than complete darkness when I open the door
