Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
1 Attachment(s)
Like the title says, I’m hunting the rubber boot/elbow that goes from my original equipment air cleaner assembly to the hole in the core support. It’s for my ‘87 TBI truck.
I’ve added a picture for reference. |

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
This style was only made in 87 and 88, and are not currently reproduced.
Go to car-part.com Enter search for 87 and 88 suburban. There are really no results for just an air tube so select Air Cleaner. I guess they don't think its worth listing. You will get a bunch of results. Some even have pictures. Look through the pictures and pick out the results that show the air tube in the engine bay, and start calling. A lot are cracked, so you need to make sure they inspect the tube. You might have to get them to do a package deal of the air cleaner and tube together. In my case, I ordered the air cleaner and they threw in the tube for free. |

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
Good luck guys. Please post if you find something. I ended up w/an open element set-up as I couldn't find what I needed for my 89 CC Dually set-up.
I've been looking at alternative air cleaner housings (OE & not the Spectre aftermarket looking stuff) that I can adapt 4" hosing to. I was successful after being tasked w/a similar set-up for a car so I began the hunt again for my dually. |

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
I have a good one pulled from an 88 Suburban. $45 shipped. I will check to see if I have another one on my 88 dump truck.

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
The LMC 81-86 is straight for the carb set, the 87 TBI hooked because the air cleaner base nose is shorter @ different angle. (87 TBI air cleaner base, needs the 87 TBI air inlet tub to work.)

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
LMC does sell two one is longer I think you might make it work by modifications to it.
Maybe fill towels one end shape the angle heat the tube enough with a heat gun to relax plastic let cool in that shape you need should hold to it better) try not to melt it. your best bet for one would be scrap yard that has 87 gas TBI |

Re: Hunting an original style air cleaner “elbow”
Those are pretty rough to find, Much like the 81 Under Vaccum Style Inner Fender-mounted Cruise control units... If it was a 6.2L diesel they are nearly impossible to find... Luckily I found one for my 6.2 in my "parts" stash... haha.
I would think B/c It's on a Gasser Some Aftermarket company would sell them. Should be all the Same for Carbed or TBI. |
