how much $ did our trucks cost new?
just wonderin, this prob had ben posted before, but does anyone know how much our trucks were new? i would think that a 72 cheyenne super would prob be the most expensive, Longhornmail, i figured youd know this one. what about a first gen camaro, friend has one ad he said someone old him it was $2500 new, i dont think that is right, who here is hte original owner of their truck

A loaded top of the line model was under 5K

Bear with me cause it's been years but my dad
bought a new 69 1/2 ton, the only options were the 350/350, and AM radio. Memory is never perfect but I'm thinking he paid like 24-2600. I'm thinking that cause it stuck with me that he got most of his money back when he traded it in 75. the 75 was around double the 69. thats from 30 years ago though so take it with a grain of salt. seems like the 75 or 76 3/4 ton 4/4 went for around 7500 I spent enough time stareing at those stickers, But again that was a long time ago. dave [This message has been edited by dross (edited May 14, 2002).] |
My 71 C10 Suburban had a sticker price of $5000 even. It came with a step bumper, 3 rows of seats, AM radio, custome deluxe interior, 350 sb + th350 transmission, lower side moulding. The purchase price of it was $4200 late in the year of 71.
The things I find amazing are the prices of options. A 6cyl was std. A 307 cost you $42 and a 350 would add $44. Why would you buy a 307? I think a 402bb would add $65 but you had to add the th400 for $125 also, but still! What a deal. The expensive items to add were electronics. I bought a '72 4X4 new - traded in my Boss 302 for it (I still kick my ass even though I acquired another Boss 302 a couple years later), but it seems to me the list of the 4X4 was less than $5000. I probably have the window sticker in some of my old sh!t somewhere, but wouldn't know where to start looking for it. My 4X4 was a base model. Only had a radio if I remember right. Only kept it two years and traded for a '74. Did that every two years'till '78 which I still have. In addition to others.

haha, that's pretty cheap but remember... inflation pretty much puts the price of a new truck around the same 'cost-wise' of one of those..

The original bill of sell for my low optioned 70 C-10 is $2,600. For reference, my oldest brother purchased new in 72 a heavily optioned RS Camaro for $4,400 and a year later in 73 got a new Corvette for $6,500.

Those prices do sound cheap now. When I replaced the interior in my '72 I found an old paystub from the previous owner. It was dated for sometime in 1972. Net weekly pay was a whopping $186.00!

My longhorn went out the door of the fremont california plant with a special order price tag of $4800 bucks. The truck is currently worth about $10000.

Put things in perspective. I got out of the Army in 1969. My first job paid $375.00 per month gross. In September 1971, I bought a new Plymouth Roadrunner (P.O.S.) for $3200.00 and they allowed me $1200.00 for my 68 Mustang GT (P.O.S.). Times have changed, huh? Bought my first house in 1974 for less than I paid for my land alone in 1994.

Thank you Tim! I have heard so many people try to start that rumor (not that you are Baradium) and it is not true!! What people (mostly PowerJoke owners) are saying is that the head gaskets are going to fail because the block is steel and the heads are aluminum. As of this date no heads or gaskets have failed according to GM and Isuzu. I am on a boat forum and the PowerlessStroke guys are always trying to say they have a buddy that blew up three heads and got rid of the truck.....blah, blah, blah....

The factory tach was a $50.00 option in 1968, according to the original invoice.

aaccording to my title. A brand new 50th anniversary 1968 Chevrolet C20 with power steering, air conditioning , power brakes, heavy rear coils, custom package and 396/310 HP engine cost a whopping $4375 delivered to Lapuente California on March 30th 1968. Empty weight ( was ) is 4820 lbs.
