Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
Hey All
Im having this recurring problem when I push the brake pedal the right turn signal lights up meanwhile the right turn signal still functions normally when used :smoke: this happens and then goes away and comes back again any ideas would be much appreciated thanks |
Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
Start off with running lights and flashers, and see what you get, walking around the truck. Might just be a bad bulb.

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
All the bulbs are fine and the turn signal functions like normal
when the brake is applied the right turn signal lights up for as long as the pedal is pushed then sometimes it goes away |
Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
You have a ground issue somewhere in the brake circuit most likely. It's a poor connection and somehow grounding through turn signal circuit. Most likely the rear brake light housing.

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
Has this issue been resolved? I have the same issue after replacing my turn signal switch. The problem I had before replacing the TS switch was no brake lights. Now everything works as intended, including both brake lights, except that when the brake pedal is pushed the RF parking light comes on and the RH indicator on the dash comes on as well. All other lights work as intended. The TS switch is an ACDelco NOS part, and is identical to the one I removed, all wires in the same positions. Any help is appreciated.

Your NOS turn signal switch is defective..

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
What I would do to troubleshoot the lights and the turn signal switch is to unplug the column connector and run a jumper between the brown wire and the dark blue wire (front right turn and indicator lights power wire) and see if you get dim lights. This would indicate a poor ground on the light housing. If they are bright then use a multi meter on the turn switch column plug and check the ohms between the brown wire and the dark blue wire and check for near zero ohms when you select right turn. If you get high resistance then the contacts in the TS switch are corroded or dirty and you are not getting full voltage through the switch.
Here's a good thread on the turn signal switch. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=695511 |

VetteVet I appreciate your knowledge and help. I will check this out when I get a chance and report my findings. One question, do the lights need to be on or off while testing?

I forgot to ask, key on or off?

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
There was a thread on here about 6 months a year ago about the newer turn signal switches having a bad clearance problem that was letting the lights stay on. Can't remember where though.
Anybody else remember it? :chevy: |
Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
This is an old NOS switch, came in one of those cardboard canisters with the metal lid that you have to peel the strip to open. It looks exactly like the one that was in the truck when I bought it 20 years ago. I know that doesn’t mean that one was original though.

Bringing this back to the top, as I have had no luck in finding the source of the problem. I really do not believe it is in the turn signal switch, but it may be. Could the black wire from the horn relay have anything to do with this? I have a constant draw also that I have not been able to solve and believe that may be related to the horn relay, so I was wondering if both problems could be related, pointing to a problem with the horn relay? I read a thread on here today about a member having a constant draw issue that turned out to be the relay.

The horn relay in these trucks only work the horn. Is the horn working when you hit the horn button? Disconnect the horn out under the hood and see if it stops are take the relay wires off see if it stops the draw. Are you talking about the lamp in the dash is coming on when you hit the brake pedal? If so pull the cluster out and check the printed circuit good. Look at the light bulbs circuit. I just had to fix mine.:chevy: |

Check out this post from me about my cluster. You may have some thing like this happening.:chevy:

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
I will check the printed circuit, it was ok when I installed the cluster (bought it from Tom) a couple years ago but I know things happen over time. This all started when I decided to replace the rear lighting harness after installing my new bed.

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
I should rephrase that. I decided to replace the rear harness due to the rear turn signals and brake lights not working properly and that didn't fix the problem, so I replaced the turn signal switch with an NOS unit and now the the rear turn signals and brake lights work but now I have the current issue.

Re: Push Brake Pedal and right turn signal comes on???
SOLVED! The NOS switch is indeed apparently defective if it’s not correct for our trucks. I checked out the original switch and found the terminal for the brake lights in the half moon connector was missing. So I found another black wire with the same terminal and soldered it on and used shrink tubing to seal it. Now all lights, turn signals, and flashers work properly. Thanks to all who responded, I appreciate it greatly!
