Pre '47 "What Did You Do To Your Truck This Week" Thread

First, a sincere apology to Special-K regarding my posting of a Craigslist ad for that chassis for $200. You're right; I DID forget about the ad-only thread. My bad. I was excited that someone might want that steal of a deal and posted it without thinking.

I think it is the 60-66 board that has a "What Did You Do To Your Truck Today" thread. It's a bit ambitious to expect people to work on their trucks every day, but I get that it wasn't intended to be literal. For a lot of us in the pre-'47 crowd, we're just trying to FIND a worthy starting point.

Nevertheless, I think it would be nice to have a place to post minor stuff we do here, unless its worthy of its own thread ala a specific activity like my (eventual) upcoming Steering Wheel Restoration, or Rear Window Installation thread.

SO..., I found a free (yippee!) rear headliner bow from a local guy as well as the door windlacing metal trim for the doors. On Sunday I did a quick wire-wheel & semi-gloss black spray job on them, I installed them yesterday with new zinc plated Phillips screws. Clutch head screws are correct for these but I didn't have any (& don't own a clutch head screwdriver). I think it kinda looks good with the bright shiny silver heads. I also bought the J-nuts necessary to install the glove box itself but I'm holding off because I need to install the short drain hose that runs from the cowl vent to the pipe that lets the water run out the firewall and am struggling to find the right sized clear hose so I will be able to see if debris gets stuck in there periodically. You can't reach it well after the glove box is installed. Also, I need to bang on the glovebox hinge doors to sorta pinch them. They're a bit loose after 60 years. Pix coming.

Ok, no one is doing anything to their truck but me I guess.

Last week at the Pomona Swap Meet I found a 1941 California license plate for only $10! Its "mouse eaten" around the edges and has a couple tiny rusted-through spots but for $10 I couldn't pass up trying my hand at restoring it. It'll hang on my shop wall as my truck is registered as a '46. Under California's "Year of Manufacture" license program, I can't use it - even though my cab is ACTUALLY a '41 cab! One of the old fashioned longer license plate frames will totally hide the bad edges. The tiny holes? If it were going on my truck I'd repair them with JB Weld but since its not I'm claiming "patina"

Here's "Before" and "In Process" and fully stripped shots from today. I used a wire wheel on my bench grinder. I also painted it with several coats of rattle can high build, sand-able primer, then gloss black but didn't get any pictures of that yet. Tomorrow I may get to masking off the letters for yellow paint.
