This will be a very slow slow build....I got to get sweet pea done first....:metal: And to be honest with my new born baby...It could be a year or so till i really tear into it..and do yet another Frame Off:smoke:...I just figured i would start some where....

Today for the most part, I just wanted to get in the shop and look it over really good.....I really have not messed with it at or even really looked at it until today..... The deal that i did......I just wanted to get it on the trailer and out of the guys driveway before he changed his mine.....But after closer inspections to day i think i should have RUN........lol.....Anyways after about an hour on the charger, she fired right up.loud as hell to....Header gaskets are gone on both sides, with just straight pipe to cherry bombs......lol..( nice ) lol....To say the gas is old is a understatement....It does pull under its own power but i tell ya it has to have at least a 3000 stahl in it....I took it down the road and it was a wild ride.....Anyways got him in the garage and found some interesting things. To the say the previous owner was a hack is giving him credit....I have never seen things so cobbled together before....I will let the pictures do the talking....lol..........Anyways my plans are to basically keep the drive train, eng, trans and rear end (its a posi) of what ratio i have no idea....Keep the dog house, the frame rear suspension and what ever else i can salvage..I have alot of left over parts from Sweet Pea and another truck so i already have everything to go five lug and go disc up front...The cab is in need of desperate repair....And after doing sweet pea. (which was in way better shape)...The thought of doing it all over again, is not to pleasing so i am going to look for a nicer (big back window) cab....And build out from there...it is going to be a step side for certain.....I am not a short bed guy by any means...But my first truck was a 67step side...So i always wanted another one....But i want to have this one tubbed with some meats under it.....Stock exterior ,nothing shaved or smoothed. But we will see how that goes.....Anyways enough of this chapter, Here are some pics....Attachment 405755

Long term projects, the only way to go...I should know

Gotta love them prior owners and the things they do. So far yours is mild Tony compared to what the folks did on the 69 I bought.

To say the previous owner was a hack would be to give him credit......That's funny.

Cool project. I couldn't imagine finishing one truck and then jumping right in on another. ;)

Re: Herbert

This truck needs compassion and understanding. Kind of like a stray dog that ran away cause he was getting beat for wizzin on the rug. You can do it Tony :metal:

Re: Herbert

Good luck figuring out EVERYTHING he did! My 70 I drove thru college had so much "hidden" PO engineering it is a wonder it operated at all. PO's like the one that had your truck are now the reason I only buy completely stock originals. I trust my butt to ride in a vehicle at 70 M.P.H. engineered by actual engineers in Detroit and not Billy Bo Bob who got a bright Idea while he was drunk on Fallstaff beer.

Re: Herbert

Thanks for the comments guys. And i am not sure i found all the hacking...Just the things that bothered me the most.....I look forward to doing this one...AFTER Sweet Pea that is....lol.....I have no problems doing another one...Just the funds problem lol....I have quite a bit wrapped up in sweet pea..And this things needs way more work... Again this one will take a while...My daughter is my main priority at this point...Then Sweet Pea.I have tons of ideas and plans...for this thing....We will see how it pans out........MY plan is to find a non running truck with a good cab and get the main goodies off it....A LWB is what i will look for,Just for a cost issue.

Are you gonna do it justlike sweetpea just a shortbed

bad6772 11-25-2008 06:15 PM

Re: Herbert

No this will be a completely different build...I want this one to appear to be a stocker. Not full on hub caps or anything...But a original kinda paint scheme, some trim...And i with a good low stance, tubbed with some big meats in the rear....Just a clean original looking, tubbed, bad ass ride....lol......plans always change..But this what i see at this point....Color more than likely will be a silver with some pear, maybe black? Red interior, will be a must WE will see.....I wont be doing much custom work, shaving add this move that type of build....Did enough of that already on sweet pea.....

Reminds me of myself, too many projects to do, which one to do first and no money to do them, argh, anyways hope to see some action in the future on it.

Re: Herbert

Just an update, Even though Sweet Pea is my main Priority ...I got a lead on a cab and a few other parts today...My step father and i are going to go look at it this weekend....A buddy of his has it all....He wants to do some trading...Needs cab corners and rockers put in a 73....Easy enough...

Re: Herbert

I like the plan: "clean original looking, tubbed, bad ass ride"

If I ever re-do my paintwork, it will be along those lines, even though I do really like the Yenko stripes........... anyways cool project can't wait to see more of it.

Re: Herbert

Today is the big day....A friend of mine is coming over so we can tear into Herbert.....There wont be much left of the ORIGINAL Herbert....I am not saving too much of him..My buddy Steve ( the one who is helping me) blew his engine,So I am giving it to him for his help.......mainly the frame, the trans and the doghouse with the core support....is all I want
I will post pics today of the carnage....

Well Ole Herbert is gone....ME and my buddy Steve took him apart in just a little over 3 hours....And he put up a great fight.....There is really no usable part to keep sheet metal wise.....Just the hood and the grille....Everything else is Junk...I did save most of the brackets and small pieces, that I feel are usable..The engine seemed to be running well before the tear down...As we did a few small burnouts....We are just going to do a basic gasket kit and a small cam....Trans wise I will just save it for a future project..Frame looks to be in pretty good shape...Just some surface rust....I will store it until I completely figure this thing out....I have all the parts to convert this to 5 lug.....Anyways here are a few pictures.....Herbert is not dead....Just needing a new direction..Or inspiration...
