Re: interesting ,, my 71 has 72 doors from factory

In those days, sept. was the change over month. I think all of the blazer doors (70,71 and 72) all had a screw under the wing window. Not sure about 69. The earlier ones had a plastic escutcheon with the screw. I think it would be odd for a june 71 blazer to have 72 plastic door panels, but who knows for sure. Alot can happen in over 50years...

Model change for us (Oshawa Assembly Plant) was always in late July right after summer shutdown.

Maybe OP's doors are not original, or GM decided to do a design change part way through model year. We did this quite often.

Would like to see pics of OP's Huey in his signature.

the doors are original to the blazer by proof of the blue door sticker dated 8/71

Please post pics of the doors preferably with both the door panels on and off. It's easy to tell if the doors have been modified to accept 1972 door panels.

Can you post a photo of the screw just below the vent windows?

I can't comment specifically on these doors, but in general:

We would pull ahead minor changes in detail components if we thought nobody would notice, or if there was not a decrease in value, if the timing worked out and it was convenient to do so. That would be one more thing to not have to worry about when the bigger model change hit and we could cross it off our list.

Things that were "marketable", like an appearance change (interior or exterior, like a new grille or front end appearance), that we could charge more for, or that were specifically tied to a new model via regulations would break point on the model year.

they look to have 72 door guts and panels but are on the original 71 door so either it was dressed up with 72 guts and panels from factory or some one took the time and money to change both door guts and panels to over to 72 style not sure? ??????????

it is a late june 71 build. the last month of the 71 build for the St Louis plant i belive. so it may have been one of the earliest to receive 72 panels and door guts ?? who knows?

As I see it, the most likely scenario is. In the past 50+ years someone has changed out hardware to accommodate the 72 door panels which they liked more.

Re: interesting ,, my 71 has 72 doors from factory

I converted my 71 GMC K15 suburban to 72 door panels over 25 years ago.
Finding a good set of regulators for the front was fairly easy then, as they are the same as all pickups. Finding rear window regulators for the back windows was another story. After looking for some time, I finally took my original rear regulators drilled out rivets and replaced with longer 72 posts. about 6 months later I stripped a 72 suburban with proper long posts. Those regulators are still on the shelf.
