How much are you guys paying for gasoline these days, I am paying close to $1.50 a gallon and when you have a truck that gets anywhere from 8 to 10 miles per gallon and being a teenager on a fastfood salary i can not afford it, as much as i love my old truck i might have to sell it if gas prices keep going up or stay at what there at, but anyway i was just wondering how much it costs in other parts of the country i am right outside fortworth, texas

Paying around $1.67 for mid grade here in W. Va. (dosn't run well on regular). I get about 9 mpg on my 72 Suburban.

Dollar fifty in sw michigan. but if you go into indiana it's usually at least 10 cents cheaper.

Heck...I put the high octane stuff in my Audi and pay ~$1.79 gal here in Michigan.

Right now it works out with conversions to about $1.89/gallon but thats the highest its been for the last month. C'mon summer back to that days where we only paid like $1/gallon and that was last summer!!!:canada:

Let's look at some cold hard numbers:

If you travel 15,000 miles in a year, and get 10 mpg, you'll buy 1500 gallons of fuel costing $2,250 @ $1.50/gal.

If you buy a 7 year old honda civic for $3,000 and get 25 mpg you'll save $1,350 a year in fuel over your truck. But look out for that maintenance bill. Parts are not as cheap. (or get a $1,500 Mitsubishi Mirage and only take a year).

Based on that, it will take you two years to recoup in fuel, what you spend on a more fuel efficient vehicle. This is the basis that I didn't spend 2k on fuel injection. Granted after two years, you'll be loving that easy fill up at the pump.

If you tune your truck (not knowing what gears, engine, carb) and keep your teenage foot at bay (not easy) and get up to 14 mpg (can be done) you can shave $600 off your fuel bill.

Just do the math and look at the tradeoffs before you leap.

i might have to sell my 71 soon, atleast after i paint it, the collage that i am going to is 30 miles away, so i might get a bike or a small car, as much as i dont want to

I just filled up this weekend and we're about$1.35 to $1.45 for regular at most stations. Of course that was 2 days ago.

well if i can i am going to buy a 69 volkswagen bug and keep the truck just tear it down and start a ground up on it

I think its $1.47 here for the cheap stuff. I just filled up the burb $60, ouch. I'm figuring my taxes and I bought $2100 worth of gas in the burb this year. And I only drive 20 miles round trip to work a day and don't venture very far away with the burb very often maybe once a month on a 120 mile trip. When I get the 72 swb 4x4 back I'm going to check it out on gas. Randy:(

I just got done driving to oregon again with my truck. I got over 19 again. However gas costs about a 1.85 here. Thats the premium chevron stuff. Thats about all my truck will run on without backing the timing down and crap.

I was always told that a big chunk of the gas price was due to Road Use Tax.
A guy in our Water-ski club stated that he keeps all of the receipts for the gas that goes into his boat, lawnmower, weed eater, farm equipment etc. Anything that is not used on public roads and at the end of the year he gets a refund of about thirty cents a gallon.

Now if you do a lot of mowing and boating that could add up.

I have never known anyone to actually do this.

Have you found a bug already? I've got a buddy that has one that is a project for him. He's just about got it ready to sell. He drove it when he was in his teens (about 20 years ago). I don't know the year or anything. It's been a few weeks since I talked to him, but I'll see what I can find out about it. He lives up in north Dallas area

I'm 16 and drive my 72' to school everyday and get between 10-12 mpg and spend $20 bucks about every 6 days to fill her up. Not so good, but I make it. Wanting to trade/sell the truck like my sig says for a Big ugly 4x4 that cant get much worse mileage hehe:)

In the Charleston- Huntington area, I'm halfway $1.52 to $1.72. I drive 45-50 miles a day,glad the S-10 gets 25 mpg!!!!!!!!!

somewhat complicated but here goes

regular unleaded in Winnipeg is about 69.5 cents per litre

there are about 4.5 litres in an imperial gallon so that would make it about $3.12 per gallon

if you are in the USA you should know that an imperial gallon is actually 5 US quarts so deduct about 20% so that would make a US gallon about $2.50 Canadian dollars per US gallon

a Canadian dollar is about 63 cents US so that would make it about $1.57 US dollar per US gallon here

We pulled into Hawaii 3 days ago and gas here is 1.75-1.85 a gallon. When I left home in Bremerton it was 1.09-1.15 Of course since the truck is at home I don't have to buy any. Plays hell on tennis shoes though. And the sunburn really sucks. Jeff.

HA! Going to or coming from a WestPac? Don't really care which, just curious.

Can't remember the name of the High School student who was pre-emptively mourning the loss of hid beloved truck, but you might consider looking at a motorcycle for Spring, Summer, and early Fall for basic commuting.

My bike is a 6 year old Suzuki Intruder 800 that isn't in BAD shape, it just doesn't look so new anymore. It gets 45 miles per gallon and has a 3 gallon tank. The bike happily sucks down any gas short of diesel I put in it, but I try to use 91 or better.

A similar vehicle can be had for about $1,000 or better. An older, 600cc crotch rocket (vomit comet, rice rocket, whatever) can be had for a tiny bit more.

I use the bike for "commuting", cruising, etc. And only bring the truck out for fun, bad weather, and really long trips (over 200 miles). But then again, I am kind of a Hardass when it comes to motorcycle riding. I've ridden thru El Nino, from So Cal to N. Central Texas in two days flat, in the rain, and 120+ temps in Southern Arizona. Actually, most of the 25K miles I have on the bike were put on it in some kind of inclement weather.

The point is this, all is not lost. Get a bike. It'll be better for a college student anyway, and as long as you get a cheap used (not a piece of S%^t, bring a friend who knows bikes or ask here with detailed pics) bike, the insurance shouldn't be cost-prohibitive.

It'll be worth it in the long run, trust me.

About the equivalent of $5/gallon here in the UK, and about 90% of that's tax! I don't get to drive my truck as much as I'd like at these prices, for any longer journeys we use my wifes diesel Jeep Cherokee.
