89 Silverado Z71
Figured I would post some pictures of the mods that I have completed.
Motor is a 5.3 from a wrecked 2004 truck that I found on CL for $400. Transmission is a NV4500, truck used to be an auto. Instrument cluster is from a 91 Sierra that I had back in high school, its the one with the same connector and just had to move a few wires around. Couple of things to work on yet are better intake/filter setup. Get the A/C working need to replace a hose then should be good. Different top radiator hose, and get a bigger idler for the belt tension pulley. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1fd11586.jpg Yes all the gauges work. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psf591c45d.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psba087507.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a9e16e6.jpg Want the intake to look nicer, but this works for now. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7b36f070.jpg |
Re: 89 Silverado Z71
Finally got my electric fans installed and found a rubber boot so I could mount the MAF and aircleaner up front.

Re: 89 Silverado Z71
Here is the info I used for the cluster swap.
http://www.koolcartoons.com/lowdown/...91cluster.html I only did steps 8-14. |
Re: 89 Silverado Z71
This is really cool if you could give a litle more wright up I would appreciate it ive got a 94 I am planing a 5.3/6.0 swap when ever I can get parts and figure out the wireing part did you get your factory tact to work if so how?

Re: 89 Silverado Z71
The engine harness I did myself and used info and pin-outs from LT1SWAP. The gauge cluster is actually from an 91 GMC, only have to re-pin 3 wires and add one for the TAC. The tac is fed from directly from the ECU (had to change the output settings in the ECU to make it read correctly). Motor mounts I build cause at the time I did not have time to wait for mounts to come in the mail, however at some point I will put the Dirty Dingo mounts in.
Young, what transmission are you going to run? I don't have a lot of pictures because I was on a tight schedule when doing the swap. What specific information are you looking for? If you have any more questions please let me know. |
Re: 89 Silverado Z71
Its in my signature the truck it will be a manual most likely the factory nv4500 unless I get a wild hair and put that in some thing else. and put the 3500 I have in it will be a daily driver the information im trying to gather is pretty much all wiring I can fab. Anything I need and turn a wrench well the truck wont be a power house just looking for more reliability and fuel economy

Re: 89 Silverado Z71
I used a Flywheel from a '06 4.8L or 6.0L, they are the same flywheel. It is raised to make up for the .400" difference. you do not need a spacer. The flywheel can be had new in the aftermarket for about $100, Sachs NFW1050. You will also need an extended pilot bearing. I used one from NAPA, 6302-VSP43. On the flywheel I removed the pins, and had to make the holes slightly bigger on the pressure plate to accommodate the metric bolts used with the newer flywheel. I also used the stock exhaust for the 5.3 and used some misc pieces I had laying around in the garage to fit it to my existing exhaust system. I will try to post some pics tomorrow.

Re: 89 Silverado Z71
Ok cool man thats helping alot I knew I need the 4.8/6.0 fly but didnt know it was spaced right and how did you get the ecm to live with out the auto trans its programmed with send off to flash it??

Re: 89 Silverado Z71
I programed the ECU myself with EFI Live. I did what they call a segment swap to put in the different transmission information. I also removed the VATS, turned off the rear O2 sensors and turned off a few other things as well. Also used the info over at LT1swap to rework my harness.

The 47 is slowly getting worked on. Between active duty and back on a ship, working on my BS in IT and a 2 year old I don't get much time. However I am currently working on installing my brake system using a hydro boost setup. After that I can put the cab back on the frame and start working on the steering column and paint / body work. |
Re: 89 Silverado Z71
Thats what I was expecting it to be way up there I couldnt justify that for just 1 or 2 tunes
