Is there anything you can't do. My 63 plate got distorted when they blasted the cab.

Has anyone else seen these markings before? I touched the numbers up so that I could make a stencil to allow for reproduction after I re-finish my chassis...

I am not really sure what they mean, though the one forward the spring perches is most likley a date stamp.

10-17-62. October 17 1962 the trucks would already be at dealerships for sale as 63's. Maybe the frame was replaced? Used to see rail cars loaded with frames headed to the GM plant in Ontario Canada. Stacked one atop of each other, inverted?

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

That should be correct, it is actually a 63 chassis. The original cab was so rusted out I replaced it with the 61 cab that is on it now...

Is there more markings behind the spring?

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

There is part of the upper left number that is covered by the hanger, and maybe some other digits. The white that is showing under the spring next to the hanger is actually plastic from a lable that was on the pack. I replaced all of the spring packs a few years ago and I didnt get all of the shipping lable off lol.

I believe the 1963 aluminum grill bezels did not come from the factory with the black trim. Here is an NOS aluminum trim ring I have still in the factory packaging. Part # 3822813

Hey Aerotruck63, what are the hood ornaments worth if they can be found? Im not trying to buy or sell one, but if I were to come across one, what would a fair price be for one in decent shape?

I'm not sure I would be correct and I haven't seen the firewall's of factory two tone GMC's

Not sure about all, but here is the firewall on my factory two tone '60 GMC. It follows the middle color (white).

I added more grill pics to post 83. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...4&postcount=83 It looks like the factory painted the panel body color then black then white. Take a look at the numbers written in grease pencil. Were they written on the paint then bled through? They may have been written on panel before any paint. I thought the numbers were written on the paint. At least that's the way it looked on the firewall.

Not that I'm likely to attempt a chalk mark and overspray style restoration, I love seeing and learning about what the exact "factory" way was.
I have an all original 64 chevelle that I found both build sheets, original invoice and delivery paper, owners manual, etc with- pretty exciting stuff to us that appreciate it.
I usually browse over in the 67-72 area because I have a 68 suburban, but I may be trading an OT vehicle for a 65 gmc, so I'm studying up. If I don't trade, I am thinking I will probably start looking for one anyway. Cool trucks

No, I'm pretty sure they didn't do that on the aluminum grill.

I have a single NOS Aluminum 63 grill bezel new in the GM box, and it does not have the black paint - the White ones were the only ones to get the black trim coloring.....

Correct color and texture for a '66 dash. This is a NOS in the box (so unfaded) deluxe heater control panel, so the color should be exactly as GM made it. It's showing up slightly lighter on my screen than it really is; the bottom pic of my glovebox door shows the color better.

And a shot of the inside of the glovebox door from my '66. This should be unfaded as well. This photo is showing it slightly darker than the real part is.

i believe it has been said that that color most resembles the lighter fawn color, not the darker color of the '66 dash

the dash is the dark fawn poly . the color on the glove box looks correct . what is strange about that paint it darkens over time ?
