1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
I have been looking for a 2wd Blazer or Jimmy for quite some time, I finally scored! It was a long drawn out scenario of several conversations, then the owner almost changed his mind about selling, then the deal was back on, they the freight company flaked out, then I found another, then another etc, etc, etc....
Finally she landed, and I couldn't be more pleased! It was originally a 4wd, 2 owner Jimmy, the condition is amazing, we cannot find any surface rust on the frame, all panels look to be original, even has the factory tape over the seam sealer! Let the fun begin! So far I have new bumpers, Flaming River column, drop spindles, Classic instruments cluster, new trim, the GMC hood emblems, billet tail and side lights, Raceline wheels 20x12 & 20x8.5 ordered, a Slightly" modified 6.0 LS with 4L80E tranny waiting on this Jewel! http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstblderah.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...psf5e4bnhx.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...psdnkhj0oi.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...pslkrouitn.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps6ciimsbw.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...psp5ub1xa0.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse4yqrvvc.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2p1ib0lg.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...psv3tuxbjj.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...psq40qagnp.jpg http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/z...sntefrcwl.jpeg |

Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
Nice Jimmy!
What size tire are you using on your 20x12's? |
Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
Watching this one. Lexanni makes a 335/25/22 that's less than $300 a tire

The wheels are 20x12 & 20x8.5, they finally arrived from Raceline, 15 weeks later! We have mocked up ride height, next step is frame removal! I also decided to run the LSA supercharger on the 6.0, tranny is finished... and here we go again LOL

Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!

Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
Thanks guys!
The rear tires are 315/35/20 It will be a static drop, I love both but I have had some close friends that have had near fatal issues with air ride. We are going to brace the frame, build a 4 link for the rear, convert the existing tubular control arms to coil over control arms, build the upper frame bracket for coil overs and run the CPP open style upper control arms to clear the coil overs. Based upon mockup we may need to raise the K-member, I am ordering the wide wheel tubs for the rear and we will have to raise the floor some! The rear end will be a narrowed 12 bolt, strange axles, ford ends, 3:42 gear. The brakes are on the way, 12" Wilwood front and rear, Trans is ready, its a 4L80E freshly built. We will be running the 6.0 truck engine, LSA supercharger with a ZL1 hat and ported snout to 102 MM with a 102 MM throttle body! This should be fun!!!!! |

Wow

Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
We are still working on the 1961 Apache but I have changed my mind regarding the engine, I am going to stick with the 6.0 but add a set of Tick ported 243 heads and a 2.3 whipple or Magnuson.....maybe it will spin the tars a bit LOL

Sweet Blazer! Do you happen to know the specs on the wheels? Like backspacing. Thanks!

Re: 1971 2wd Great Motor Carriage..... Sprucing up my Jimmy!
We have been plugging along on the Jimmy ... GSI machine front end, lots of frame fab work, new column, new harness, billet door handles and tail lights, new bumpers, new trim, picked up a new SLP 2200 supercharger etc .... I’m running out of steam...

We are now wide open on the 71. The engine I purchased ended up being a junk pile, the guy really misrepresented it! I had a local Race shop that does Trans-am circuit engines go back through the engine.
Molnar Crank Molnar Rods Mahle coated 2618 Pistons GMPP CNC Ported heads then the race shop improved the port work slightly TVS-2300 Supercharger! CVF Serpentine setup...etc We decided to go ahead and take it down to the metal and make sure everything is solid. The repaint will be the newer Camaro Inferno orange! |
