What's my drop?

Hello, I have always wondered how much my truck is lowered. The paper from the previous owner said the front is lowered with 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch springs, and the rear is lowered with 6 inch springs. So is that a 4 and 6 drop or am I totally translating it wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you are correct. That would be a 4/6 drop.

Thanks for the reply. Am I correct in understanding that is as low as you can go without cutting and modifying stuff?

Do you have disc brakes on the truck? Your description makes it sound all original, but there are no drop spindles for drum brakes. Do you have a side shot of your truck and what is the wheel/tire combo?

Yeah it has disc brakes. The description in my signature only states the factory drive train. My thread about the truck states all the stuff that has been modified. The wheel and tire combo are also listed there along with pics of the truck from all angles. I can post a pic here if you want though.

Pretty much. Your next step would be a c-notch in the rear and then you could maybe add drop blocks but you'd be really low out back at that point and would most likely bottom out quite a bit. Up front, you could switch to 2.5" spindles and 3" springs and that's about as low as you could go without needing to pull the inner fenders out.

Okay, thanks again man that's what I wanted to know. I'm not interested in making any permanent modifications. How close does 6" of rear put you to the bump stops, and how much does it affect hauling capacity?

Not to hijack the thread, but can you estimate the drop on my truck from the picture? It has 18" wheels with around a 27" tire.

I am going to make some changes to the front suspension and was curious at what the previous owner did...

I don’t mind. Nice truck man. Honestly it looks pretty close to mine, maybe a little higher in the rear. Hard to tell from different angles. Might be my bumper or your wheel/tire combo as well. But it could be any combo of different parts giving you the drop, 2” or 2.5” drop spindles and different front coil length, 1” or 2”rear lowering blocks and different coil lengths. (Assuming you have 4 corner coils.

This might be a better picture to compare:

A lot of people cut the rubber bump stops in half on the rear of a truck with 4/6 drop. Gives just a little more room to haul stuff.

Did not know that. I’m going to have to check mine out now. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'd agree. 4/6

Just curious, did they relocate the rear shocks when they dropped it 6" ? If not, man your ride quality is suffering bad. Some $39 relocation brackets will make it ride like a caddy.

Post a picture of it from the back, laying under the truck so we can see the rear axle and I'll tell ya..

Tha paper said new shocks. When I was under there I’m pretty sure they were relocated but I wasn’t really paying attention. And it really does ride like a Cadillac. It has a ton of cloudy bounce to the rear so I’d say they have to be. It has quite a bit of travel when I jump up and down on the bumper as well.

I really like that color combo, looks amazing. That’s like in my top favorite 71-72 models I’ve ever seen.
