Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
5 Attachment(s)
Oh and a bunch more!!!! Everyone knows a modern stereo install in one of our trucks is a real challenge...and I have been hitting it head on. Made the 10" sub box (booster box under sub will be covered in black leatherlike materail to blend), 6x9 fiberglass speaker housing (seam won't show...but I guess I could have cut it straighter, lol!), removed the gas tank from behind the seat and put a 5/8 leather like covered board to attach all thisa stuff to. Next iI will be building the 6.5 and 1" component speaker fiberglass housing for the front kick panel area's. Oh it can be done...just a lil' engineering and creativity!!! LOL.
The seats and console are from a 04' Yukon Denali...I lucked out and bought the 2 seats and console... all for 500 bucks. Just thought I would share. Alex |
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Looks great so far. Where will the 6x9's be placed?
|
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
6x9's will be placed lower outside corners behind seats, screwed to the 5/8" covered board that holds all the components. Just enough room there!!!

Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
looks great, what seats is that your using
|
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
The seats are from a 04' Yukon Denali. They were brand new when I got them and still have never been sat in other than for test fitting. I bought the 04' Yukon seats from my truck painter... long story as to how he aquired them. In short the Yukon was stolen, totalled and recovered...my painter ended up with the seats...I bought them from him.

Started the front fiberglass molds and have one that fits and I think will look good once finished. Speaks are 6.5 components with 1" tweet from Infinity Kappa. I'll build another mold tomorrow and glass them this weekend. :ho:
I scrapped this shape and tweeter screw-in holder and went with the top mount. This was for the swivel tweeter option which I don't really need. You'll see below. Alex |
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Very clean set-up you did a great job of installing the stereo stuff.

Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....

Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Playin' hookie today...to get a jump start on these glass speak houses! LOL! Changed the design slightly to bring the 1" tweet closer to the woofer and making the house more compact....and not so much looking like a ping pong paddle!
Pics soon...off to Home Depot..I need hot glue sticks and some acetone. Alex |

Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Man those seats look great! I am mocking up my door panels and kicks this weekend for sure! I am molding a kick like the Q-From style ones for a 6.5 and 1 pair like yours. I am using Infinity Reference series because it's what I had laying around. :D
My back will be 2 Kicker L7 subs, either 8" or 10" if they will fit. I am also molding the rear section, just not sure how until I get the tank out of there and see what kind of room I have to work with. Again, that looks great! Can't wait to see it done. <edit> I'm also molding a 5.25 into the stock door panel near the back corner for some rear fill. |

Just a pic to show the front houses 90% done. One more skim of filler in a few places, sand, and then the black leatherlike vinyl finish cover.

A little more progress. Here is the finished front fiberglass housing, covered in a black leatherlike vinyl. :ww:
Now to mount them in the truck!!! |
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Very nice looking boxes!
Pics or a description of the install process would be helpful to many. How will you attach them to the kick panels? |
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Yes! I will take pics of the actual install. They may not go in the kick panels, but tucked up high on the under dash floor boards....we'll have to see! I had thought about attaching them to the inside door panels, but Infinity Kappas are pretty deep and would stick out quite a bit.
|
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
Ok, these front speaker houses are going to mount on the floorboards up under the dash. I don't want to have to move the E brake and Dimmer switch, so floorboards is where they are going. I came up with another design that will be more compact and only require moving the dimmer. I'm going to make them just to see, maybe sell them on ebay, I don't know?
Wired up all the crossovers and speakers to the amp last night. Now for the head unit install. The original GM dash stereo hole seems to be slightly to large in width for the Pioneer I have??? So maybe a glove box, under dash, or in console install might have to be the ticket??? |
Re: Still here now and then...stereo install/fiberglass speaker boxes....
With it all wired and the deck laying on the floorboard, I brought the battery inside and hooked it all up for a dry run. Man oh man....there is so much power it hurts your ears when up loud. At a nice level these Infinity Kappas are something to hear! I am thrilled with the way it all sounds!!! ....and my fiberglass houses worked!!!!
