Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

It's uncomfortable to post this but I feel obliged to do so that it may spare others some hassle. I've ordered several sets of seat covers from member Truckseats in the past and have been pleased (as have many other members here).

In April 2016 I paid Tim $1885 for a set of plaid front/rear seat covers for a highlander blazer and an accompanying set of rear bedside panels. Tim distributes these products made by Truck World of Springfield, MO run by Larry Nease. I expected a bit of a wait. In September of 2016 after inquiring about delivery I received an email from Tim that my covers were shipping and that my panels would ship the following week.

When my seat covers arrived one of the two had the plaid pattern misaligned and needed to be redone. Tim asked that I work directly with Larry to ensure the cover was redone correctly, which is appropriate. I finally received the redone cover in March 2017, 11 months after my initial order and after incurring an additional $50 To return the covers to Larry.

As I was directly communicating with Larry now, I kept up inquiries through him regarding my panels (that did not arrive when I was told they would) always receiving excuses about why the manufacture was delayed. In late December 2016 Larry told me that he could make my panels with a premium vinyl much better than he typically uses and a match to OEM and that he could turn them around quickly. I agreed and sent Larry an additional $750 through Paypal that I'm subsequently clawing back as he later (March 2017) claimed the embossing process wasn't working well on the thicker vinyl. I was led to believe he had worked with this upgraded vinyl before and was not informed he was experimenting with different vinyl. He agreed to make me panels using his typical vinyl and that mine had priority - I expected no more than say a six week wait.

I've periodically checked in with Tim about my order and on those occasions he contacted Larry on my behalf. To this date I have not received my rear panels: that's now almost 14 months after the original order. Today a board member here reports that he just received his rear panels (this week) through Brothers Trucks after a wait of only six weeks.

If I could order a set of panels from another manufacturer I would never have waited this long. Larry Nease of Truck World is the only manufacturer and supplies all the distributors. There are other vendors on this board I have spoken with who have cancelled their business arrangements with Larry for similar unreliability.

Larry sent me a text on Monday June 5, 2017 stating my panels were "Going out in next 2 days for sure...".

Sorry to hear this. Dad was getting these from a wholesaler that bought from them in quantity for a better price than we could direct but dropped Truck World products from our web site well over a year ago after years of problems. Order's we were told were 4-6 weeks but in reality they actually always took 3-6 months at best with many orders having taken significantly longer than 6 months. I don't believe they ever met the 6 weeks they promised to have something done in to be honest.
He will eventually come through but his promised deadlines are just empty promises in our opinion that meant nothing.

Peter,

I have included you on an email I have sent to Larry for answers regarding your order. Paul is absolutely right about the deadlines. He always does come through but this is a little much. Your panels will be my top priority. I think I still have all of the information you gave me about your direct order with Larry in my email.

Re: Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

I talked with Larry today and was insured again that due to the special vinyl and scrolls on this specific vinyl, this took considerably longer than their standard panels. I was also told they would ship Monday. Pete you should have the same email I received. Lets update this the first part of the week to insure that they did ship and that we have a tracking number. Thanks - Tim

Re: Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

A little reluctant to chime in but will say tim with truckseats was great and honest to deal with. I included very explicit order details (71-72 blue hounds tooth horseshoe pattern to be cut to fit a folding 68 seat, 71-72 don't fold) and got a oem 71-72 cover but not for a folder. Called truck world directly and was told that there are many pattern for these trucks and didn't have the 68 pattern. I provided a perfect 68 upper and a taped up oem used bottom for a pattern, absorbed the shipping but in 3 weeks got exactly what i wanted. Funny, because in my sheet with explicit details i included my cell# that i will answer most anytime. Worth the wait and hassles, YES, but the customer to supply the pattern, surprised!!

Tim thanks for your help in closing the loop. I really appreciate it. Glad Larry was able to get it in gear and assemble them over the weekend.

I'm a multiple repeat customer of Tim's and can attest to the quality of the work Larry does as I've used his covers on four trucks now and have a set of his K5 panels on my green Blazer that are better than OEM. Ordering the upholstery for the current build was one of the first steps I made along the rebuild as I knew it would entail a wait.

Re: Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

I was unsuccessful in getting any sort of refund from Larry Nease via PayPal. I advise other members who order seat covers from a supplier that uses Larry Nease of Truck World to do so with caution. Larry's distributors and former distributors are well aware of his unreliability. I recommend distributors that still do business with Larry look out for their customers by taking payment through PayPal, take a deposit rather than total upfront, have an established deadline for delivery, and insist the customers receive photos of the final product BEFORE shipping. Larry bilked me.

One former Truckworld distributor recommended PUI for seat covers: http://www.puiinteriors.com

DeadheadNM, Just out of curiosity sake what is the vinyl backing on these new panels? The old ones where of a cardboard type material that didn't take rain/ moisture. Is the new backing material more water resistance?

It's a melamine type backing - very stiff. In some respects the new panels are better than OEM imo.

Glad I got my custom order parchment set a couple years ago. Paid $500, and thought that really hurt. They are still good as new. Hope yours are made of Kevlar, Teflon, and kryptonite for what you ended up shelling out.

I have yet to receive my rear seat highlander cover from larry, we've been waiting on SMS, I have been in contact with them and they have validated his claims on waiting for more material. I ordered them in October through southwest classics as they were told from larry I'd have them in 3 weeks, my front seats showed up but he apparently didn't have enough for the rear seat.

Re: Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

Larry and I have have worked out a mutually agreed upon refund regarding the additional monies placed toward my order. Larry chose to do so and I'm grateful. Larry isn't a thief and as I've claimed does good work. When I placed my order I anticipated a wait just not quite as long. I'm glad to have my upholstery in front of me and the acrimony behind me.

I ordered, and paid for, an Orange plaid seat cover from Tim in march. I still have no word on when I will get this.

I reached out to Tim and he had Larry call me. I ordered seat covers at the beginning of this year. Larry didn't give me a time line but I felt better after speaking with him.

Good deal, I hope it looks good. I have been in contact with Tim on my cover. He says they are correcting a heat stamping issue.

X2, I paid for my seat cover on 3/10/17 and still nothing. Very poor communication from Tim and Larry. Larry called me 7 weeks ago (only because Tim was tired of hearing from me) and said it would be out in a week, still nothing. Come on guys, you're not making a very good name for yourselves

Re: Truckseats (Tim) and Truck World (Larry Nease)

The rear seat cover for my blazer done by Larry lacks the vertical lines embossed on the back of the original cover. PUI covers have these lines. I'm going to try and get the material from PUI and have that part of the cover redone.

Try PUI (see above link). If you are after bucket seat covers be mindful that GM centered the pattern. Here's a pic of Larrys off-center example (one centered one not).
