Started building this old 2wd K5 I picked up for the old lady.
Seen it for sale locally and bought it, pretty cheap, really hard to find 2wds around here.

the plan was to lower it on 20s and let her drive it and fix as needed...

I apologize for the crappy photoshop.

it had a bit of a stumble when getting into the throttle so I rebuilt an old quadrajet I had and stuck it on there.. Didn't help. Set the valves after getting a tick, then it came back, tried to set them running and noticed a cam lobe half wore off.
So I sent a 350 I had off to get rebuilt and sent the trans at the same time. Really thought about a 5.3 or 6.0 but nickles and dimes didn't add up. Plus its pretty much just a summer truck

Found some good deals on modified vortec heads, performer RPM airgap intake, 625 demon carb which really brought the price down.
Went with a comp 262 cam, 9.5:1 compression and picked up a new MSD hei distrib. Otherwise pretty much stock internals, bored .030.
Really hard to find nice centerbolt valve covers, but I picked up these nice cal custom valve covers from summit for a decent price...

took the front clip off and cleaned it up, degreased and painted the frame. Looks pretty sharp after all the elbow grease..
Its just a daily driver so tremclad is good enough.
The suspension will be cleaned up and painted when I lower it.

So the shortblock comes back from the shop and the tranny is done
I slap them in, add some headers, new flexplate, starter, belts, etc, etc.
I went with flexible trans cooler lines to the new cooler with crimped on fittings, there was no way those old lines were going to fit again.
It fired right up no problems and I broke in the cam.
Had some trouble tuning it after and had a guy come by and help, now it works really nice. Good throttle response, decent power, but I think the gears are too tall. Have to check that out sometime..
But for now it runs great, idles nice, lots of vacuum and in good daily driver status.

Thats were it sits right now, tying up odds and ends.
Patching some holes in the floor, its a weird truck some of it is so rust free its ridiculous and then theres a hole somewhere... its different. The body is really nice except the rear quarters are rusty. The whole floor is great then theres 3 fair sized holes..

thats where it sits right now, I plan to lower it soon. All new suspension and brakes, balljoints, ties rods and all that stuff. Then wheels after that. I've overspent alittle on the motor & trans but its going to be pretty reliable and decent for the old lady to drive in. I have to also patch up the body rust in the quarters and maybe splash a paint job on there, but mechanics first.

thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I as well cannot wait for it lowered on some nice wheels.
Finished patching the floor up and used some rubberized floor & trunk coating. Looks much better than the original white and patchy primer that it had before. It had no carpet when I bought it would like to add some later, this should do for now.
Hopefully the updates will continue quickly but have to recover from all the money spent on the drivetrain first :waah:

damn, that floor looks good!! while your $ is recovering you could always run what you have and cut 1 coil off the springs and take a few leafs out just to keep busy and get an idea of how she's gonna look. i ran my truck like that for years.

ya man you should do that it would save you money for the time being and also give your truck a sick look.
