Door Weatherstripping

Finally getting around to putting on the door seals. I have the “Counterpart” brand, now the door won’t shut, is hard to open and the door edge is way off but can’t be moved in any farther. The rubber seems way harder than a new old set from LMC I had sitting around. Start over? Or will the seals compress over time?

Boy that is a hard one, no pun intended. It's difficult to know what to do, I know I have installed many over the years that are like that and I simply leave the doors on the first latch for a few days and then it shuts all the way, still tight but will shut. Then after a few days later it works fine.

2 days with no change, not even a little. I am leaning towards pulling it off and starting over, it's not acceptable as it is...

my buddy had the same problem with new door seals on a '54 GMC. we ended up getting a soffseal set, no problem after that. door closed properly right outta the chute.

Out of stock!

I took the seal off and readjusted the door. I'm glad I'd only done the drivers side, I can do without until they are back in stock. I'll have all winter to put them back on.

Here should have them, if everyone is out I have a set I got in August that I won’t be installing for a while.

Had real problems getting a set. Something maybe wrong at factory. Will say they went on much better than glue ons (they have adhesive strips). Adjust your doors first. Bend the hinges if you need to and then install the seals. Because of the adhesive strips its relatively easy to install without removing doors (and messing up fit. Even with drilled spotting holes removing doors is a PITA for me.

yep, vintovka has it right. adjust the doors without stripping so they fit and close correctly, then install the stripping. if the doors gotta come off, drill the 1/8 holes through the door and hinge so they will line up exactly where they were when they go back on. have a buddy help so the paint doesn't get scratched moving the door off and back on. masking tape on the edges may help too, in case of the odd bump.

Masking tape (blue stuff) is an excellent idea and should be considered mandatory for paint protection.

I just went through this on a 50.
Ended up pulling the seals off and redoing with steele rubber ones that fit correctly.
I looked for the softseal ones also and they were out of stock too.
I've seen it take years for a seal to settle in to a normal feel.
Rubber seals are designed to recover there shape.

Thanks, Summit had them in stock, way cheaper than Soff Seal too...
