I didn’t get anything done last night i was contemplating re doing the whole back half to lower the truss down 3” and move the bag to the factory mounting spot on the trailing arm.... i originally didn’t do this because of the large gap that is there (have to full 4” with the bags fully compressed when laying the frame.
I finally at 9 decided to stick with what i have for now. After i am done it still would not be much work to cut it all down and change it if i don’t like it how it is. Benifita would be better ride and more lift but it complicates bag mounting Picture just for fun |

Test fitting some things
Definitely can’t run the wide wheels i had in the back front wheels are perfect so at least i have a measurement to go with... Hopefully i can sell these for enough to buy a decent set to replace them |

Slow progress, sick kid, wheel issues and changing to bag on bar.
Spend most of my free time cleaning the shop today to get all our cars in because they are predicting softball sized hail. So it probably won’t even rain. I got almost everything ready to go to weld on the bag brackets for the new location. I didn’t want to wait to have brackets cut on the cnc so made some by hand with the band saw and grinder today. I really need to get a vertical band saw the hand held works but it’s a hassle |

Made some progress on the radius arm bag mount setup. It looks a lot more like a afterthought then i want it to bit hopefully after the gussets are done and everything else gets finished up it comes together. Everyone i talked to on the bagged bored said it would be worth it for the improved ride quality by mounting them on the radius arm vs the axle so i decided the pros out weighed the cons.
Everything else should go pretty fast. Only thing left to cut are the cross tubes for the top of the truss (going to add matching 45s) and the gussets for the bag plates. |

Anyways pulled my brackets off to finish welding them cleaned up the cuts to match the frame a little bit and then put them all back on the frame I’m happy with the way it turned out. Next step is gussets on the bag plates and re doing the tubes on top of the truss. Also complicating running tube either down from the truss to support the bag bracket or across between the two brackets. I don’t think the extra support is really needed but better safe then Sorry? |
Re: Bagged 66 swb stepside project: Major Chip Hazard
Don't let the mods/additions get "too busy".
|
Re: Bagged 66 swb stepside project: Major Chip Hazard
Nice progress.. Don't know that I would run a tube between the brackets.. Getting kinda busy back there. A small gusset maybe from the backside of the bracket to the angled brace you have there now would look good, be functional and out of the way... My $.02

I ended up doing gussets in between the two brackets and then going Out on the bag plate no movement at all on the bracket so should be good and avoided more tubes.
Also going to leave the single tube on top of the truss i didn’t like it with the 45s. And ITS ALIVE!!! Well not really it’s like one of the old school photos with dead people staged to look alive 😂 Have some clearing to do on the firewall for clutch linkage and had to cut away a part of the transmission jump of the cab to sit down right still needs some tweaks. Super excited though. |

Looks good all laid out....Nice progress on the chassis.

Started welding it all up in the back. Got the firewall cut up so the clutch fork can actually work and cab sitting correctly. Glam shot.
Going to be slow rolling for awhile waiting on parts after i get the back half all welded up. Going to be a lot of sheet metal work to get the drive shaft tunnel finished and the floor pans done. |
Re: Bagged 66 swb stepside project: Major Chip Hazard
No pictures but slow rolling this week. Got the cab actually mounted and started cutting the rust out of the floor and working on the drive shaft/trans tunnel. Trying to figure out how i want to modify the cab brace at the back and make a hoop that does not look half ass without making a completely new brace... suggestions welcome
