Dana 70HD Rear Shock Mounts Locations

1 Attachment(s)
Dixie has a Dana 70HD for a rear axle (first time I have been exposed to one of these). The truck did not have rear shocks when I bought it and after installing the 4 inch lift I noticed the passenger side shock mount is mounted on the top side of the axle. The mounts look factory and so do the welds.

Does anyone have a phot of a stock Dana 70 rear end in their square body they could share? I am ordering shocks and wanted to see if mine is a different beast.

I don't have any old pics but my 2wd def had the equally centered staggered shock mounts under the axle tube.

Someone cut that one off and turned it upside down. Probably because the shock body hit the tube when it was lifted and the pinion was pointed up.

Thank you everyone.

@SCOTI - Appreciate it, I assumed that was the case and @86454K30 confirmed it. I suspected it had been modified and @obijuan's theory makes sense since there was a 8" life on the truck when I received it.

I have to give credit to the person who re-welded the mount back on, the bead profile and start/stop looks to be something from factory. I am going to measure and put a shock in there for now. The rear end will come out eventually for an overhaul and I can deal with them then.
