Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
Hey I have a 1972 C-10, and my buddy is getting a '69 CST-10 and he asked me what the difference between the two where. Any help on this would be awesome.

Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
So many differences. CSTs are the top of the line optioned trucks (up to '70), whereas the C-10s are usually fleet trucks will few options. Of course the options varied with every truck based on what they were ordered with. Check the SPID (sticker on the inside of the glovebox door) to see what options came on the truck. In your buddy's case the CST will be list here.
Of course I'm not the "knower of all" but I have learned these things over the time I've had my truck. The real experts will probably give you more info. Hope this helps...:chevy: |

Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
First of all you are comparing trucks of different years that were offered with different, though similar, trim packages. C/10 means any 1/2 ton two wheel drive Chevy in either year. The CST/10 is a C/10. In 69/70 C/10 was also used to designate the base trim and in 71/72 the base trim was Custom/10. In 69/70 a Custom/10 was the equivilent to a 71/72 Custom Deluxe,or mid-level trim. You must have a '72 Custom/10. His '70 CST would compare to a '71 Cheyenne.
69/70: C/10,Custom/10,CST/10 71/72: Custom/10,Custom Deluxe/10,Cheyenne/10,Cheyenne Super/10 ^^^ They are all C/10s |
Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
in 67 68 69 cst is pretty much cheyenne ,and i think 70 is when cheyenne becomes the top of the line and then it progresses to cheyenne super and then highlander models 67 68 trucks dont have as many options in the package as 69 72 trucks but those good options dont have those cool slant hoods either!

I am 95% sure this is correct but I let others chime in if I am incorrect. |

To compare apples to apples in '70,the year your buddy is interested in,the base model was C/10.These had no exterior trim (including around the windows),painted bumpers/hubcaps,metal door panels, black rubber mat, vinyl seat, black dash knobs...The CST had the exterior trim (including around windows and a broad tailgate band),chrome bumpers/hubcaps,vinyl door panels, carpet, vinyl embossed scroll seat to match door panels, dash nobs with bright trim work in the center. Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
In 70 a Custom would have scroll pattern vinyl door panels w/woodgrain at the top. The seat would have the same scroll pattern on the vinyl surrounding cloth seat inserts. The dash knobs will have bright centers. The glovebox door will have a Custom badge. The seat will have full foam. There will be bright trim around the glass and lower mouldings on the sides with black accent. The tail end will have trim around the tail lights, across the upper and lower. No headliner, only CST.

Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
Interesting. My truck currently has steel door pannels and has for the last 3 owners (15 years). I was pretty sure that you couldnt get a headliner on the Custom but I figured I would ask since I have one from my previous CST. The truck does have the Custom on the glove box. Now you said it would have lower mouldings. Is that lower only? The person who owned it three owners back bought it as a all original beat down truck. It was Orange/White with both upper and lower trim. It also had the small trim around the back of the cab just below the rear window. Should it have that was well?
Thanks for your input! |
Re: Difference between CST-10 and C-10 pick up
TRIM. Plain and simple. CST Stands for "Custom Sports Truck". Nothing too different from a regular 69 C10. Its equivalent to a 78 C10 Cheyenne's trim over something like a 78 Custom Deluxe. Think of it this way.... CST=Cheyenne Level Trim/Luxury. Just a fancy abbreviation for a fancier C10.

Here's a screenshot of the vehicle info sheet that lists included equipment/accessories for the 69 CST. You can find other years here https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html
(Can't get the image to display. You can find the CST options towards the bottom of page 17 on the info sheet) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2...ENxeDFOeXlRTk0 |
