The coolest would actually be to use the old center caps on these wheels somehow....

I'll take another look for Dodge steelies on eBay or wherever.

In my application, I actually WANT a lot of backspacing. (5-1/2" to 6" would be fine). Ideally, I really want a wider wheel....something in the 11"-12" range, so even if I find a Dodge wheel it will probably end up hacked apart to graft the center into a wider barrel.

Thanks for the leads... :chevy:

Looking good. What did you finally end up using on your caps?

I ordered some of these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Chevy-Bowt...#ht_486wt_1043) in 3.5" but didn't care for the look. I found that Chevy Malibus from the early 2000s (late 90s?) have a blue bowtie in the trunk emblem that just covers the stick on on those I ordered, and most of the Malibus have the silver around the bowtie. I carefully pried them from the trunk emblems and glued them on the eBay emblems (after installation on the cap) with a light coat of Goop adhesive. I actually have only done the one in the picture. Since then, we were burglarized and the set of caps was stolen along with a set on like new 2001-2007 Silverado HD alloy wheels. The eBay seller also sells just the black discs for half the price, but the blue outline bowtie helps center the Malibu bowtie.

Here's a better pic of just the modified cap:

all of you guys out there with newer GM 8 lug rims on their trucks how did you get the center cap to stay on the new style lug nuts did you change rotors? I have 2005 2500 hd wheels and caps and the new style lugs with the threads on them but the black covers in the caps will not reach the lug nut for some reason can any one help and any one have pictures with the wheel off and with it on and no cap by chance. thanks

Do you have a Dana60 rearend? If so, sounds like you're having the same problem I had? Your center cover won't go on because of the axle hub. I used 1 1/4" spacers on mine to get the rim out to where they would fit. Have since found out that I can get the centers for a dually set up that will work without the spacers. The spacers have been on for 3-4 years with no problems. pic of spacers below. Just bolt them on, and then use the studs on them to bolt your rims on.

If you are looking for factory steel wheels try Stockton Wheels in Stockton CA. I had a set made to my specs. Turned out great.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Yep its a dana 60 and you are correct. I have the rear figured out I can go three ways to make them fit spacers, dually caps or the route i started and probably the most expensive is longer studs to accommodate a special lug that a local machinist can make me to fit the wheel but the cap will still hit the axle cover plate. so the dually caps or spacers is the better way on the rear for sure. Now I need to figure out the fronts I have the stock disk brake set up and once the wheel is on the lugs are tight the black cap covers that hold the cap to the rim wont reach, I can get one or two started but wont tighten up they pop off so I am about 3/4 of an inch or so shy from making them work on the front and need ideas for that if any one has any. Thanks OhioDan for the info so far much appreciated you to Roger if I cant get the look I want I will go the the steel wheels for sure and will look uo Stockton Wheel for sure.

Centerline Blackfoots in 16.5"...were on the Burb when I bought it, have been on it since the 90s. Not a bad wheel, but I want something different, that will be easier to get tires for.

The pic in my avatar is what I'm running for now. It's sideways, I know, but I just pretend it's climbing a really steep incline...or as special-k once said it looks fine if you're eating a taco. It's going to get 16x7 and power kings eventually.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

bought dually caps today at local swap meet brought them home and they will no not work either they are deep enough to let the axle cover fit inside the cap but the lug caps that screw on to the lug nuts to hold the cap on will not reach the lug nuts that is the same problem I have on the front with the stock 2005 3/4 ton cap I love the 2005 -06 3/4 ton wheels but this is getting crazy trying to get them to fit. If anyone can help out some more let me know

Bump for 8 lug guys. I'm trying to find the dually caps from a mid'90s Chevy to put on the steelies I have. One found set and it sold fast. Hoping to find another set or I'll just run spacers out back, but caps would be cheapest.

Does anyone know if these steel wheels are being sold as repops yet??

I have a 85 K20 and do not want to go over 17 or bigger wheel.

I know you can get them in 16s, and would highly recommend it as you normally pay through the nose for 16.5 tires and selection is minimal.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I was thinking about running these, as they kind of look like the old mags.

http://www.hotrodhanks.com/imagesProducts2/16358.jpg

The old dually steel wheels also had oval holes, but 4 insted of 5. Maybe powdercoated white with OEM hub caps would make them look kind of vintage too!

What do you guys think?

UNLESS of course anybody knows of a company building 18" or 20" steel wheels, or aluminum that look like the OEM 16" steel wheels and take the OEM hub cap! If anybody hears about anything like that, LET ME KNOW!!!!

Thanks

Not wanting to hijack the thread but I am looking for advice of what vehicle I can do a swap out of rear axle that has disc breaks positraction and something that doesn't have to be cut on to make it work. I have a 72 c20 and want to stay with the same wheel package that I already have. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.
Please pm me if anyone has any info.
Thanks
Robert

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Extended72 there are kits out there for the C-20 I retrofit my 71 C-20 Longhorn with disc brakes out back for less than 500.00 with quality parts. the biggest trick on the C-20/30's are the rear hubs they rotor has to go on the back if the hub so when you do the job or need to turn the rotors you have to remove the hubs and that is time consuming but worth it for sure.

Just wondering, Did the hole for the axle hub fit right away or did you have to make it bigger?
My truck has the ho52 Eaton Axle.
Thanks.

I have 8.25 & 9.75 -16.5 steelies but not looking like a truck for them for a while. Can't go wrong on a C/20. Guys never worried with hubcaps, either. I remember black wheels. They look great with chrome lugs
