Hi guys thought I would get started on a build thread finally lol. I have a web page I have been building for years on this truck but thought to share what I got with this truck on here as well. I am working on getting an l92 and 6l80e engine and trans home here this next week and will getting some photos of it up here and on my webpage here very soon. Definitely doing the speartech harness setup since he can set up a pontiac gto shifter to control the trans od switch and 6l80 transmission without any problems :D.

you can kinda see where I started over 12 years ago on this ole beasty first vehicle I ever bought an downed outright without assitance from my parents. Many an afternoon rolling her down parking garage ramps at work to get her started when the engine oil would kill the starters lol. She has come along way so far and with any luck end of 2011 will be dragging rice burners down I75 with my 4.56 geared rear end.
in these you can see where I am working on adapting the 2008 dodge 3500 disk brake plates to the axle will have more pictures up in the next few weeks when I get hold of the machinist again and we get the delrin plastic pieces for mock up ready. once those are in place will be getting the exact depth and thickness set to make adapters out of 7071 aluminum which he says will be more than plenty for keeping the brakes in place :D

here are some pictures of the painless 67-72 harness I am heavily modifying to fit in the gmc so I have a lot more circuits to work with.. After about 40 hours work it is turning out beautifully.

got some new pictures of the progress I am making getting the engine to slide into the engine bay. I was working on stripping off cut plug connectors and other misc stuff today, dropped the ac compressor and bracket off the engine along with motor mounts and some other misc stuff. here are some pics. the first tow are of the exhaust flange and my efforts to save it since gm wants 500+ for a new cat y pipe assembly for this engine. this works out great for me since I am doing dual exhaust anyways. also got some pictures of the early classic engine brackets I had stashed away and found yesterday :D

That trans you have is for a 4x4 application. What are your plans there?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Captain,
gonna convert it to 2wd model. at the prices they are asking in the junkyards here for them trannies will be cheaper to have a trans shop swap it over to 2wd output shaft.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Yeah, I understand that. It's difficult to even find a late model 2wd trans around here at any price. Are you going to convert to a mechanical speedo at the same time?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Captain,
No I have an electronic speedo to use with it. Speartech is going to set me up the harness for the whole thing and he can program the speedo output to work with the speedometer I have. No one as of yet makes a mechanical speedo output for the 6l's yet. Hopefully the future will bring more goodies for it. :D. plus the speedometer sender is inside the transmission on these 6l's series trans since the computer is inside the casing.

I got some work done on the disc brakes for the rear the machinist came over today and we atrted the trial fit of the adapter plate that will mesh the two pieces together. Also got the rotor centering rings as well and they worked perfectly rotor is 100% centered on the rear hub :D.
On the 6l80e going to upgrade the output shaft when it is torn down for the shaft conversion so i wont have any problems with shattering drums in the trans which apparently the 6l80's have a problem with.

I'm really digging the build. Looks like you've got some awesome plans for the truck. Also, it's cool to see another guy from plano. :metal: Maybe we'll have to meet up and show off our trucks sometime

Sounds awesome, mine's almost road ready again. I used to drive it everyday before I started tearing into it.;) I've looked into PnP quite a bit, I just haven't followed through in actually becoming a member yet. I do plan on it eventually.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

61 it is a factory stock motor and tranny from the escalade 403 hp 445 ft/lb vvt v8 with the 6l80e 6 speed auto. gonna have to watch out for cops when driving 4.03 1st gear in trans plus 4.56 in rear end possi'd shouldn't need much more than factory hp with my truck and the gearing it has.

Sean, I saw your other thread on the T-56 transmission. Are you not planning on using that anymore, or were you ever? Thanks for the info and invite, I'll see if I can make it.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Jeremy,
yeah I gave up on that since the trans wasnt gonna be able to handle my truck. Would've blown it up lickity split. My truck is too low geared and too heavy for that transmission. I dropped the 6.0 awhile back thinking might do a cummins swap and found out that was too dammed difficult so am back to gm engineering agin :D. Luckily that chevy finally made a decent engine that really doesnt need hop ups. Sticking with this one since it has the tunability I like and plan on experimenting with after reading the hp tuners and efi live. that and 403 horse plenty enough said.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Well got a bunch of clearancing work done yesterday ont he rear brakes and from what I am seeing going to have to make some some small stainless spacer bushings for the rotor to lug mounts right now the rotor can shift back and forth on the hub and I dont want that happening during braking power application so will see what the machinist can come up with there this wednesday.

Waiting on the dirty dingo mounts and trans tail housing to come in as well so will have some more pics up next week on my days off.
