Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
I'm sending off 4 round ball vents and one center vent to be chromed. I was told resin casted parts are harder to Chrome because of the mold release. so I had to soak them in purple power and then spray them off with carburetor cleaner. the chrome guy told me after that then I need to do a test with scotch tape to see how well it sticks. all is good on my end let's see how they turn out. unfortunately it's a five week turnaround but when I get them back I will have one complete ready to sell. after this first test I will make a whole bunch more so everybody gets one I have 11 people on my list so far let me know if you want a complete assembly and I will put you on the list.

Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
working on the smaller vent ball conversion now. the small one is 2 1/4 in tall. it will fit fine on the sides of our dash for the 64-66.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pscc70483d.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps5913c035.jpg cut out and sanded smooth. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps4fd43ac6.jpg inserted the center piece from one of my casted parts. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps7ef1f20c.jpg compair the original to the new smaller side vent. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psd550296e.jpg next i will cast the new part and send it out for chroming and it will look like a factory 64-66 truck vent but for the side of the dash. |
Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
That smaller vent looks good.
I did a little online research on resin casting, just a question for you, what material are you using for the parts and for making the molds? |

Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
This is awesome! Excellent work. I just shared this link with a friend at Vintage air as this would be an amazing addition to their sure fit kits. I would love to see a complete modern AC kit with the original vent. Fantastic work stepping up & filling the void in the market. I know it will pay off for you.

Man, so glad I was just browsing the FAQ section which led me to thinking about another member. When I searched his posts, I came upon this thread. I remember seeing some talk from a couple folks about making this happen, but I'm so glad to see it's working out for you! Luckily for me, my dad found an original in good shape from an A/C cab he bought a while back. If I end up needing anything though, I know where to look. Congrats, & keep up the nice work!

Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
did some more work on the 2in vent ball mold today.
made the 1st clip and it was too thin. it did not grab tight enough. so i made another mold and made it about 3 times as thick. because its resin and not metal it did not stay when you pushed on the center vent. so i drilled a couple of holes for the "teeth" to drop into and it came out perfect. the next faceplate mold i will make it will have the holes in it . this is taking me longer than i thought. its allot more work than i expected but i am making progress every weekend. please bare with me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps4bd55d81.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps095cb265.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psb81d16cb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps63f710ed.jpg |
Re: 1964-1966 center a/c vent
I have to say, your work is Simply amazing. And here thought I really was doing good when I filled a shifter ball full of epoxy, rubbed a little grease on the shifter handle, and held it in place while the epoxy cured so I could 'adapt threads' hahahaha.
