I cut off about 2-2 1/2" off the rear and still have at least that much to attach a bumper to the frame with. It looks like not much in the pics, but there is enough. Most step bumpers only use 2 bolt holes any how. I'll have a custom bumper and more than likely build the hitch into it which will go under the frame and go behind the shackle hangers and tie in there as well.

I managed to get my 285's mounted on my 8 lug chevy aluminum rims. I am planning on putting them on the truck tomorrow to see what they look like.

We pulled the truck out of it's hole this morning and tried to put the new to it wheels on it. There is a little issue with the rears. It seems the chevy wheels have to small of a hub center to go on the dodge D70. So it looks like i'll be looking for a place to open that hole up a little so I can get them on. These are 285's instead of the 265's I had on there before. Here's some truck porn!

Not really. I got the gasket kit for the engine and that's about it for progress on this one. I've been working on a o4 F-250 conversion I have to get finished up. It's eating up any spare time I have.

I'm going to try and get some real progress done to this truck this weekend. This morning I pulled apart the short block I'm going to use. For having 500,000 miles on it, other than the oil being super nasty, it looked great inside. Now to get all the pieces cleaned up! Going to assemble the engine tomorrow, bring the truck inside and start building an engine cross member for it. Try to see about getting the engine, trans and transfer case in the frame by end of day Tuesday!

Progress pics!

Cleaning the block and hard parts. Notice how black the crank was. Thanks to the PO for never changing the oil. I knew the owners of this one before and was worried because they don't take care of squat! Everything was coated and stained black! I used a case of brake clean on the block alone! We have to get one gasket in the am for the gear housing to block before I can install the cam. More progress pics tomorrow.

Today was a day of cleaning again! I spent 4hrs alone cleaning the cylinder head and valves. I polished some main journals on the crank, and my brother installed the front gear housing and cam. We also installed the crank. We got 2 rods and pistons in and then I had to leave. My Dad and brother finished up the rotating assembly and Nick worked on lapping valves and cleaning the nasty oil pan and bolts and stuff. More pics.

Hey cool truck and making progress. But one question, when you mean polish the crank, you mean the journals? By hand?

Yep. The first and second journals had light scratches from debris ran through it. The bearings looked fine but I know this engine had mains rolled in it when the PO switched this engine to their dump truck. I'm guessing those bearings didn't look so good. I used emery cloth and cleaned up the journals until they were nice and smooth. The journals are still within minimum specs as well.

Hmm, I just know its Damn near impossible to get the journals 100% round and true with fingers.

Good luck, but nothing I would want to do twice.

It'll be fine. It's not like I had to remove a lot. I didn't even take off .002 and I measured all the way around the journals before and after to make sure I could get it as even as possible. I've seen these cranks being polished and you can stay on them for a long time before you remove much material. All the steel in these engines is super hard.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

Thanks Tecky11.

We made some more progress on the engine today. The long block is assembled. I have to set the valves and install the injection pump. Then I can install the new injection lines. After that we'll bring the truck in and set the engine in between the frame rails and begin building an engine cross member for it.

Yes it is! I think it's the one and only one ever done yet.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

Today I got the injection pump on today. (That's going to be a biatch in the truck by the way!) I also go the injection lines put on. That was fun. I cleaned up my vacuum pump/power steering pump, installed it. I had to find a 1/8" pipe T and cap for my oil pressure feed line for the vacuum pump. Got that all done too. I'll have to remove the vac/ps pump later and rebuild the vacuum pump. Here's my new valve cover too.

I have to clean more pieces and get them painted. Once I get the engine adapter on, I'll remove the front clip from the truck and get this sitting in between the frame rails and start on the cross member.
