Ring gear pattern Soothsayers-help!

2 Attachment(s)
Need some help guys. Setting up a brand new Eaton and gear set.

Painstakingly went thru the measurements, pinion depth called for 3.751 and I showed 3.750 on my initial setup. Using solid pinion spacer, preload was just about spot on at 24 inch pounds.

Gear manufacturer called for .007-.009 backlash, mine came in at .0075 which is a bit tighter than I want, but looking at the pattern it looks as if my pinion is too shallow.

Can anyone look at this and give me some help? I’m guessing I’m about .0010 or .0015 thin on my pinion spacer.

Thanks in advance!!

It's a trail and error process. It's rarely one and done. The measurements can be correct, but the pattern off. It looks like you need the ring gear more into the pinion for starters. The manufacturer's instructions should show you what you need when the pattern is off. If you have to move the ring gear closer to the pinion a lot, it might also mean that you have to more the pinion out a little. Your initial pattern is off by a lot.

I would add about .003 to .005 to the pinion shim

After looking at it again, I think you are right. I was going to add .005 to the pinion.
