Sunday July 3rd:

First off, A very happy 4th to all. Be happy, be careful, be safe...

Very slow going here. I have always had some trouble with the carter/webers I got from Langdon. They work great, throttle response good, but always seem to leak slightly. Really have never been able to pinpoint why, or where.
I even went to an electric fuel pump so I could turn it off when I returned from a ride and let the fuel run out. Seemed to help. I thought maybe the fuel would rise and leak from somewhere. Just always seemed to be a slight odor and slight drip on the bottoms.
So I thought I'd try something. Te carbs mount on adapters. They mount to the intake.
Now Fentons intake is setup so the carbs are more level than the angle of the motor. My Offenhauser is straight, so it is angled also with the angle of the motor.
I bought some aluminum brazing rods I saw in HF the other day and bought them. 18.00. Now, every time I try something like this, it never works, however, It actually worked pretty good.
Attachment 1548844

I cut thru the botom with a sawzall almost thru to other side. Then took my grinder and widened the cut...

Attachment 1548845

Then clamped the top and bottom of the cut together bending them to meet with a pair of welding vise grips. Clamped vise grip in my vise, heated the entire adapter with map gas until the rod started to melt on its own, then it all just seemed to flow pretty well. Let cool down and presto...

Attachment 1548846

Carbs are now more level. Will it stop the leak? Who knows. But at least I blew 18 bucks, spent 3 hrs and had a little fun!

That was a nice mod, well done! Is that a 55 or 56 in the background?

Thanks Dug, and yes AD, updates soon. Waiting for my rear end housing to come. Supposed to be here Wednesday. I have third member, 4 link from Welder Series, axles, drum brake kit, brake lines etc. When housing arrives, hopefully this Saturday I'll get going on the rear! Then paint rear frame. Then onto cab and cab interior. Thanks for asking!

well,
It has been a while. i check these posts every morning before work to keep up and most all you out there are really rocking progress on your builds. I find myself staring at my project a lot doing nothing!
So I had posted about 4 link issues in another post. Lots responded. A couple even gave me phone numbers which I thought was awesome.
I ended up finding my mistakes and issues and somehow worked it out.

Got 4 link welder series tacked in. Got a 2" square hollow, 1/4" thick bar to cross the c-notches and used it to mount my monroe shocks, and upper air bag supports. Got my rear end and third member. got the pan head bar tacked in.
Have dual exhaust hanging to the approx location I am going to run.
I'm going to do something different. They will go over my hitch, and I am going right thru the chrome bumper on the drivers side about 1" away from each other. No mufflers.
Here's a couple of pictures. Please don't look to close!! I am truly a novice at this figuring out as I go, and making many mistakes!!!

Pan hard bar and 4 links are level at ride height also. Doesn't look so in picture...

Thanks Guys!
So am going to go thru the bumper with dual exhaust. Using most of my exhaust that I recently purchased when on road last time. Just cutting it up a little.
Got one pipe thru. The other will be 3/4" away to the passenger side.
Burned out my drill right at the end! Man, sparks were flyin out of that thing...

Question...
In the next picture, I need a DD bar about 18" long. Will I need 2, or 3 universal joints here. I am using the stock column, which I can cut shorter.
Any help here is appreciated...Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Fiftee3's suspension & bagging project

I recommend Borgeson for u joints and dd shaft. http://borgeson.com/Images/100th_Catalog.pdf

Their catalog provides information on putting the intermediate shaft system together starting on page 26.

Hope that helps.

Re: Fiftee3's suspension & bagging project

Yes, I planned on Borgeson. Going to go with the stainless ones. That catalog link helps.
Thanks. Doug, as always. You have helped me a lot thru this...

Re: Fiftee3's suspension & bagging project

use a slip joint shaft! cheap insurance against impaling yourself in a collision with the stock column

love the baby blues, and your wheels are a great color too ;)

Joedoh,
I had not thought about a slip shaft. Great Idea though! Thanks. I ordered one from Summit by Borgeson. Let you know how it works out.

Coming along very slowly on air system. Lot of work! Here's how it looks so far. I ran the front air lines inside a roll of rubber hose from Summit for extra safety/prevention from punctures, etc.

Made a gauge cluster today for the air bags and tank pressures.
$15 bucks! Got 3 muffler adapter sections from local parts. Got a small piece of steel from Home D. Have to sand, bondo some and paint. Overall I'm happy with it.At my skill level anyway...
Will even have room for some toggle switches to the right where ashtray hole would be. Thanks for lookin.
