here's what i have been up to

i started 4wd to 2wd swap and vice versa
day 1 disassembly

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000010.jpg
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000012.jpg
day 2 was spent pulling the front axles out of both trucks and cleaning the frame rails

sixty8c10 08-11-2005 11:23 PM

day 3 finished cleaning the frame rails and made templates for them
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000017.jpg
used the template to mark holes then test fit
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000016.jpg
test fit is perfect all measurements are within 1/32 of an inch. tomorrow i will raise the frame back up and drill the holes clean the crossmember and bolt it in (before anybody asks about the milk crates they are only there to prevent the crossmember from rolling over they are not supporting any weight)

looks good, hope to see the rest of the swap as you get through it

sixty8c10 08-12-2005 02:02 PM

thats my plan

sixty8c10 08-12-2005 10:25 PM

day 4: i did not get a whole lot done today (had to work late). by the time i got home i only had about an hour of daylight left so i drilled a few holes and test fit a few of the brackets. hopefully i won't have to work so late this weekend.

Ok maybe you posted this and I missed it, but what are you going to end up with? Is the truck going to be 4wd and the Blazer a 2wd? Is there a reason for all this work? I know there must be a method to your madness so bring us up to date on what your doing....

sixty8c10 08-13-2005 01:46 AM

yes, the truck will be 4wd and the blazer a 2wd, the truck is pretty rough and will make a nice toy....the blazer is pretty decent and will make a nice daily driver. i really wanted a 2wd blazer and i could not find one this nice for the price (i got both of these trucks for less than half of what the blazer booked out at). the blazer will soon take over daily driver duty so i can finally get my 68' to the body shop. and the truck, i have already someone interested in taking it off my hands when i get it rolling.

did i leave anything out.

Nope, I think that covers it. I assumed it was something like that but I wasn't sure. Keep the progress reports and pics coming....

are you going to swap the rear spring hangers on both trucks? if im not mistaken, they are different between 2wd and 4wd.

sixty8c10 08-13-2005 03:56 PM

yes, but i want to complete the front ends first

milehightoyz 08-14-2005 11:57 AM

why swap hangars? why not just swap rearends? and leave leafs intact? im assuming you are swapping to get like bolt patterns all the way around?

sixty8c10 08-14-2005 04:17 PM

the 4wd rear hangers are longer than the 2wd

sixty8c10 08-14-2005 04:18 PM

day 5: did not touch the trucks....had to help a buddy move

sixty8c10 08-14-2005 09:55 PM

day 6: got home from work about 4:30 today got changed went out, took some measurements drilled a few more holes, test fit the 4wd eng mount brackets in the pick-up, then the sky opened up and it started pouring. needless to say i didn't get to much further along today

sixty8c10 08-16-2005 08:44 AM

day 7: is it ever going to stop raining...it started raining about 30min after i got home from work....so i got nothing done once again

sixty8c10 08-18-2005 11:40 PM

day 8: @#$%^& rain
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000025.jpg
day 9: got called into work and was stuck there all night
day 10: made some big progress today......finished drilling most of the holes in the pick-up's frame.......mounted everthing except the 4wd front x-member....gotta little tweaking to do to get the axle in there....will get fresh pics in the morning...worked on it til dark

as you can see i still got to mount shocks, steering box, brake lines, and swap out front crossmembers so i can mount the sway bar.

sixty8c10 08-19-2005 06:38 PM

day 11: finally got the front end mounted in the blazer
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/P1000029.jpg
i still gotta do the shocks, steering, brake lines, swap the front crossmember so the 4wd can have its sway bar, and mount the 2wd sway bar.
but they both look alot different
