welding shock mounts on a rearend ?
 

I have a ford 9 in. I,m putting in my lowered 78 blazer with air bags. Just wondering how strong the shock mounts have to be on the rear, will my 110 volt Lincoln wire feed be good enough .

Clean metal and grind bevels you'll be fine.

And practice on similar thickness steel prior to welding the shock mounts. Two reasons for that. One it let's you get the voltage right and wire speed right. Also will give a feel for the the gun movement.

Take your practice pieces and after welding, smack them with a large hammer and bend with vise and pipe wrench. If they fall apart easily, practice some more.

There should be a settings chart inside the machine where the wire goes. Start with that and adjust as needed.

You may need a 30A 120V circuit. A 140A machine can trip a 20A breaker if you crank it to near full.

Ok ,I will give it a try. Forgot to mention the rear is empty and sand blasted.

in the 80s/90s thats all we had was home depot $399. welders with wire feed fluxcore wire when we built our minitrucks.

We built entire trucks, bagged, hydraulics, body dropped, everything the 'bagged' world has turned into to today, we did it with 110 welders.

mine is a co-2 argon mix. Does that make a difference from a flux core ?

That is all I use (Argon C02 mix), you will be fine and it is easier to clean up too.

Coil-over mount? Nope. Just a shock mount separate from the actual suspension? Sure....

When selecting the set-up 'settings', I'd put the heat for the thicker material of the 2pcs. You want the penetration on the housing to be solid. Do your practice runs on similar thickness materials as well.
