to lower or not to lower...

Hey guys-the 69 is back from the mechanic (after being gone for 2 months) and I'm happy as a clam working on all the "little" things to bring joy to my DD, however, I got a question for you all...

I have 15" rims on the truck now, which makes the truck look...well....dumb. I'm trying to figure out if I should lower the truck a little to not make it look so high or get bigger rims/tires.....

What do you all think?

What type of look are you trying to achieve? Do you plan on going with bigger rims? I personally like the look of our trucks lowered so I say lower it. You don't have to go too extreme, go with what you're comfortable with.

Everything looks better lowered.

nice truck,

go 4/6 and you won't have to C-notch the frame etc... all bolt on/replacement parts; basically spindles/discs (if you have front drums) & springs. You'll still have a nice comfortable ride but will be limited in cargo weight unless you go with airbags in the rear (much more $$$ than a set of springs).

my two cents anyway...

Lower it.......or put some big ole balloon tires on it to fill up that "tire to fender" gap!

i like a moderate drop 21/2spindles with 4"rear coils big and little tires to get the hotrod type look and it actually improves the way the truck looks and handles a lot better to if you include the front and rear sway bars

That is a sweet ride dude! I like the 15" wheels and tires, and yes, it would look even better lowered some.

:agree:

This is exactly what I have. Ride and drive is great! I did a little photoshopping and did away with some of the side trim/handles, etc. It's not what it has, but the truck has a 2.5/4.0 drop and is riding on 245-60's up front and 275-60's in the rear, all on Wheel Vintiques 15-inch rallye wheels. Front are 8-inches wide, while rears are 10-inches wide.

It sits up like a 4wd. Putting larger diameter wheels n tires on that would really make it look dumb. You've got to lower it.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

lower it and score some 6 lug rally wheels and some 60 series tires to replace the wagons -- or shoot the moon and get some 18's and o-ring tires (i'd do the rallyes if i was on a budget, as you can find sets for 100-200 bucks and 15" tires are cheap, if i wanted to spend more , i'd follow the herd and get some 18" 6 lug Torq Thrust ST's with 245/55 tires)

but its your truck you decide

DROP IT! i lowered my 71 short box 4/6 using a kit i got from brothers trucks it came with shocks, springs and front and rear sway bars. not only did it give my truck one hell of an attitude adjustment the truck handles awsome! the whole job took about 4 hours but we did have a lift and a good welder to mount the sway bars.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

It's not the 15" wheels that look "dumb", it's the too small tires. Those tires sure seem little for those wheel wells.

my truck used to look all jacked up too i put some tall tires on it to fill the wheel wells and it looks much better. i have never cared for the looks of lowered trucks[mostly for lose of function] but i can't argue these trucks look awsome dropped. mine will be droped probaly 2/4 when she gets her turn in my shop

Re: to lower or not to lower...

i say keep the 15s and slap on a set of 275/60/15 tires. it worked for me.
