How to remove leafs from leaf springs..

1 Attachment(s)
just like the title says... I want to go ahead and get the 8.8 in the truck and use the spring perch method for now and was wondering how to remove some of the leafs.. My truck has a good number of leafs on the springs and it sits way up there.. I am of course going to mount the rearend ontop of the leaf spring instead of under it..

But need a bit more to get it where I want it and do not want all those leafs hanging under the rear axle..

Alos how many should I take out .. i am never going to haul anything in the bed of this truck or towe anything with it.... As you can see in the pic it is up there...

Usually they are bolted together with one center bolt at the perch location. They may have some U type clips or side plates bolted together holding them in alignment. Once unbolted they should fall off, depending on how much rust there holding them together. The main spring is attached to the shackles.

How many is safe to take out? Should I stick with a leaf and the main spring? I think it has 4 or 5 on there now...

i took out 3 in the front to get it down. all of the strength is in the primary spring as far as keeping the axel centered. the amount of springs depends on the weight of the truck and load. your call

As far as leaf springs go, just take the pin out of the center and pull out as much as necessary. On my '38 i'm just running the single leaf in the rear. Just make sure to get a really stiff shock. Possibly even air shocks if desired

Now i've seen where you are wanting to "drag the boards" so why are you even wasting time with leaves? in order to achieve your goal you are looking at a set of air bags and a 4 link. dont forget the c notched frame!

Also, be sure to lower the front end where you desire it for ride height before you weld your spring perches on the rear end! or your pinion angle will be wrong ;)

a pro street or a street rod? for a true pro street your talking a narrowed rear end and tubs. a street rod would make for a real nice daily driver ;)
